Welding wheels

Not banding Fuchs, but welding up holes in these:

I've always loved the winter 928 wheels and am thinking of putting them on the 964 - with appropriate spacers - but they have big holes in them for the tyre pressure monitors that would need welding air tight and neatly.

Anyone have any experience of this type of thing?

Yes - had the extra valve holes welded up in my space savers. It's not a big deal - anyone with TIG/ally welding skills could do it for you.

I've had a few rims welded - like KS said not a massive job. the only proviso (not relevant in your case, but might be relevant in the future for others looking at this thread) is if you're welding a crack, drill out the end of the crack and gouge the crack itself out first, then weld the whole lot up. It gives a stronger weld in the crack and also helps prevent it propagating again from the end of the weld

One other thought in your specific case - the wheels look in very nice condition, would it not be possible to just fit some tyre pressure sensors to plug the hole? would save refinishing the wheels, and presumably the wheels were designed (balanced) to have them fitted?..

That would probably be thoroughly sensible.

Depending on how much Porsche want for a new set...
