door straps
My drivers door makes two noticeable clicking sounds when it is opened (73, 911). This is on a restored car - and so there is new metal around the B posts and the door straps are also new.
I would be really grateful for views on whether this is normal/to be expected or not. I would also be grateful for any thoughts on how to stop it -a s I find it really irritating!
Thanks
Vimal

Re: door straps
I would say that's normal and there is a 'dimple' in the check strap so the door can 'stop' in the half open position as well as at fully open.
If you open to the first 'click' the door should be relatively stable in that position, and then click again as you move it out of the dimple to the fully open position.

Re: door straps
There is a correct pin for this that will ease or stop the cracking sound.
I've lived with the same cracking for 28 years, but my parts are all worn originals with a stainless shoulder bolt.
The right pin is a scroll pin I think that expans when assembled to remove almost all the clearances.
It is the excessive hole clearances that cause thr harsh cracking noise.
Iirc there was a detailed thread last year on this very topic, might be worth a search.

Re: door straps
you can cure it! as above, its 100% the check strap mounting on the A post, as pictured above, the correct one, or an oversize one, or etc will cure it. Those noises drive me nuts lol
