The quest for legality

My recently completed re-built 356 has no V5 or any documentation previous to my ownership. So I have now made steps to obtain official recognition and hopefully an age related registration number. All the papers have been sent now to the DVLA and these comprise V55/5 and cheque, V62, v627/1 (these last two may or may not be required) original purchase invoice, MOT, insurance certificate, C of A from Porsche cars GB confirming year of manufacture - 1962, document from Porsche club GB confirming year and place of manufacture and photos of the car including chassis and engine number. I'm advised the process could take up to six weeks and the car might have to be inspected. The actual DVLA term for this procedure is 'reconstructed classic'. So now I wait with fingers and toes crossed and trust I receive a positive outcome. I shall advise further.

It is my understanding that yours is not a 'reconstructed classic' unless you have built it up from bits. If you have restored a complete (ish) real car you should have no problem. Did you include before and after pictures? W

Hi Winston,
In the DVLA publications about such things a build up from bits assumed the finished car to be either a kit car which it obviously is not or a hot rod constructed of parts from many differing sources, and it's not that either. So although my completed car is an 'outlaw' as we know it (and it's not stock because I could never have afforded to build it that way) parts are in the main all Porsche. And yes I did include before pictures and after pics, the before being not much more than a shell. It was difficult to get it to slot into any exact gender and reconstructed classic appeared to be the nearest.
