Starting an engine after a year

I've been abroad for a year so Pootle has been sat in the garage without being started once.

Are there any sensible things I should/shouldn't do before popping in the battery (brand new) and starting him up?

He's a backdated SC with 3.0 engine. Had full oil change not many miles ago but obvs that's been sitting there, as has the petrol in the tank.

Have pumped up tyres and given him a push and all wheels are moving freely.

Any advice gratefully received.

I would pull the plugs and turn the engine over with the starter, about 10 secs or so at a time until you get oil pressure showing on the gauge. Then refit the plugs and fire her up, use the hand throttle to run it at about 1500 rpm to keep the oil pressure up until she is warm.

The petrol might not be in the best shape, and you need to check the brakes to see if any seals have failed, but they will probably be OK
