Selling advice needed

Post by Ben Nichols 1979 »

Hi all

As you may remember my brother and I were left a 1972 914/4 by our father in April 2015. It had all sorts of engine dramas and had been converted to fuel injection.

Well, its turned into a bit of a disaster to be honest.....the engine was fully rebuilt with new heads etc and now runs sweetly (cost about £4k) and has done around 2,000 miles maximum since being refitted.

The problem is that when we took it out of storage this spring for an MOT we have found a lot of body work needing doing.

Its seems that it needs the following:

Floor pans x 2
Inner sills x 2
Jacking points x 2

Unfortunately we just can't afford to do the work.

My question is, what do you think its worth?

It has 15" fuchs wheels, black with black cloth upholstery. I'd say she is in fair condition (6 or 7 /10), nothing like some of the restored ones on here unfortunately, and is a good, usable, honest car that has proved to be reliable since the engine rebuild.

Have looked at the prices out there they are all over the place.

It really pains me to sell it but I fear in the time it will take to save up to do the work it will deteriorate further.

MODS: if this is in the wrong place please don't just delete the post, could you tell me where to put it please? Not trying to circumvent the system.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

A bit of a difficult one Ben. Prices are a bit all over the place as you say.

Have you got any pictures? Might help to see the condition and help give a price range

Some photos of the rusty areas & also the area under the battery would be helpful.

£10k.

Is my wild guess based on what you've said.

It sounds too good to be £7k, but not good enough to be £13k, so I'm splitting that range down the middle.

Hi Ben

You read the very good advice on the 'how to post pictures' thread by our noble leader.
It's for people who ask "how the hell do you upload pictures" ?

It's called "picture hosting on this site".

Regards
Mike

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but that might require further investigation before an estimated value can be given. The rotted floor pan on the passenger side might be a symptoms of deeper hell hole issues, so if possible it'd be worth getting someone who knows the cars to have a good look at it
