Trunk Colours

Post by Kenyon »

Not in the market but I was interested in DDK wisdom on this. I thought the metal panel in the trunk under the carpet (closest to cabin) with the VIN stamp was either black or the colour of the exterior - albeit a rougher spray.

This Gemini blue 1972 911, said to be largely original paint and original colour (according to the CoA) has a silver painted trunk. Wondered if anybody has seen this mix and match before?

New one on me.

As you say, there's plenty of debate over when the front and rear compartments swapped from black to body colour, but I've not heard of silver.

It's been a while since I saw a North American CoA, is that what they look like? Bit fancy.

Looks like an early CoA. Its dated 1996, the more recent ones seem to be the same as the UK. They probably used what was available on MS-DOS back then.

It was more out of interest. Cheers both.

Looks fine to me. The silver look is just the primer showing through where they sometimes just dusted with top coat.

Looks weird to me - the black should be over whatever colour was there, not the other way around - looks like some other colour painted in at sometime - not sure why....

I asked the seller. The inner trunk area has never been painted and the silver appearance is due to too much sunlight in the picture apparently. It is the original untouched Gemini blue paint.

Mike

Look pretty authentic to me........although deceptive in the photo I think the vin number black is actually over the base coat, very little Gemini showing but not unusual in the trink area imo.....would suggest the base is off-white rather than silver.

Looks like a cracking car - a record of every petrol fill up and mileage. Incredible!
