removing a rear view mirror from glass

Post by newto912 »

hello all, me again!
I have a rear view mirror stuck to the glass, original is a chromed swan neck affair which I want to get back too.
however the mirror I have is stuck fast, have tried soaking base in sticky stuff remover, but its not budging.
I fear breaking the glass if I force it too much, or am I being a wimp?!
any suggestions?
Thanks
Andrew

Hi

Try a hair drier, slowly warm the glass area and get it as hot as possible, should soften the glue.

(Best to be done in a relatively warm area so you don’t stress and crack the screen)

Kind Regards

If you can get under it try cutting through the adhesive with dental floss..

Thanks chaps.
worked with a combination of heat, acetone, and instead of floss which kept breaking a very thin and sharp salmon cutting knife
onto the next problem!
