356 at Dick Lovett

Tucked away amongst the hyper cars and super cars is this little red car.



No longer matching numbers, the engine being removed at some time and, "The transmission was uprated to a 1958 Porsche type 716 transmission, which offers superior drivability. This transmission was only available for two production years and is very rare."

I don't know much about 356 gearboxes, is the 716 a bit special.

The interior looks nice although the back seat looks a bit baggy and I'm not convinced that the caramel coloured leather looks right.

Pretty but I agree about the shiny toffee coloured interior. Isnt the lack of a crease in the front seat squab a well known trimming error? Tsk.

There are some non standard features such as Sebring exhaust and ? 12v electrics , and I did not see the CoA details for original colour etc but that might be lack of application on my part .

Any idea who did the resto ? If it was done in the US would expect a fair bit of bondo and without a detail look at the edges on the panels cannot say much . The bonnet looks like it is not properly closed but that might be fat rubber seals !

Top money for a left hooker , a decent US import might be competitive on price .

Not matching numbers. Just a standard 1600, basically equipped. Not a fan of the trim colour. A lot of money.

The 716 gearbox fitted to mainly 1959 cars is really just a slightly updated previous 644 version. They made a modification to the 644 syncro system to further improve gear changes other than that, its very similar to the older box. It would just be a numbered item I would expect to be present on a 1959 car if the price was over £100K.

As soon as prices for standard type T2 cars reach these levels then yep, I guess you look for everything including the crease in the front seats. Even that crease is sometimes more pronounced than it should be though.
