67 car heater cables

Hi

I bought a set of 901-424-701-06 heater cables for my 67 car, I found the part number on Stoddards and bought from Design 911- but they are too short by some distance, may be 30cm ish. Any idea where I have gone wrong? are there longer cables of the early cars?

I'm not familiar with the part numbers but the SWB heater control lever is on the centre tunnel floor in front of the gearstick whereas the LWB control lever is between the seats next to the handbrake. Without measuring that would seem to be a difference of about 30cm to me.

Yep, that sounds about right to me. So I now need to find the correct part number, or the gauge and tensile strength of the wire so I can get me some and make it myself

I used stainless welding wire of the same thickness. Works fine.

As I have said on here before, the only reliable source for part numbers is PET, which is available online on the Porsche Classic website. The various sales websites are usually inaccurate, especially Design 911. You need part number 901 424 701 05, which should be available from Porsche.

yes, just landed on my ar** when I googled the price! will definitely make my own. Its not rocket science, correct grade wire and 1 gentle bend.

Bought mine from stoddard as part of a large order over a year ago £38 each delivered. All for a warm ankle or a sliver of clear windscreen!

some items in a restoration/maintenance can be sourced much cheaper elsewhere

I am in process of fitting new wires to my SC , I will either ask a florist to see if they have anything suitable or here

another example is fender bolts design 911 have a kit for £20 or so plus vat plus delivery, and that is for 1 wing not 2!,or you can get from ebay for £2.85, enough for 2 wings

fibre washers are cheap too.

there must be lots of items that can be sourced without paying the Porsche tax.
when restoring a car all these little items soon mount up

perhaps there should be a thread in restoration, where we can give examples of suitable items bought cheaper elsewhere.
