356 T6B AFN RHD

Post by Winston Teague »

No affiliation.
Apart from the high price, lack of bumpers and it's T6ness, this reads well.........

Hi Winston , thanks for posting that . I have no affiliation either , my comments would be -

price is not high for a RHD car in good condition as there are not many of those about . All classic DDK type Porsches are now expensive , especially 911 , and 356 have never been particularly cheap by comparison.

if you wanted an excellent 356A in RHD , expect to pay around £150k , and for an excellent 356C in RHD expect to pay around £100k.....the B is the redheaded stepchild so backing off to £75k for a very good one seems about right , NB more for a Super 90 B. My prices from the grapevine , what buyers said

agree that it would be better with bumpers on , might as well have a complete car .

I am not a fan of dealer blurb , this one is a bit fulsome , typical auction house boilerplate , having said that scores well on providing plenty of pics

The void between "asking" and "selling" price can be very scary.....

The RHD argument is interesting though, the potential market is smaller, but prices are higher???

BTW Winston, I actually prefer the late style of a T6 to a T5 but I guess it's all down to taste....

Yes Simon the market for RHD is smaller but after always following prices for many, no many years, there does seem always a higher price for RHD cars. Cars that came across here ordered by AFN also seem to get people interested. As I understand could be a little out, around 5% of production was RHD and taking into account most RHD drive cars over here rusted out in 15 years unless attended to,they are really quite rare to see these days.

Again, if you know 356 well, ten minutes is enough get an overall picture on what is wrong and what is correct, Also what is original and what is missing! More rare than RHD are original battery boxes and sills. Prices are very difficult these days. On the 356A front I presume its down to originality and how much has been spent on the car. You hear £40K can easily be spent, so the seller wants much more.

To be safe, if a car seems to be faultless then it will command a price that seems in the market place to be correct. Once auctions worldwide seem to come up with similar prices for each model in good running condition and they actually sell, then the price structure seems accepted. Look at Speedster prices, where would you get an operational Speedster for under £100K. Everyone knows what they have and an idea on what it is worth.

Pleased I paid £440- for mine and so far its full running costs on spare parts amount to under £5k.
Got a puncture this week cannot be repaired so have to buy a new tyre :(

I hear what you say, but I am going to agree with Simon, I am wary of the gap between ad price and sale price.

The T6 vs T5 thing is just me! And personal taste. The T6 imo was the first Porsche to have the to-this-day too tall windscreen. But that was lucky for me as the T5 has long been the least desirable to the "market", so I could find and afford one!

Hi Simon , not sure that there is a 'void' between asking price and selling price in the market as a whole . The 356 Registry's Market Watch is a good guide to what happens in the US , and in general the auction house estimates are not far off when you look at published results . There will always be exceptions , if 2 rich guys want the same thing , one will end up paying substantially more than 'the market rate' , and If a car is presented in the wrong auction setting it will not make its reserve.

What I have seen is that dealers are happy to stick with their asking prices and wait it out either till the market catches up , or a suitable punter comes along to pay it . For potential 356 buyers , ignorance is bliss  , and deep pockets help

Notice that the market for 356's in States is proving to be much more resilient to the downturn than to 70 's 911's

They can't give RSTs away.

I think he's right, 3 here all under half a million and been hanging around for months. People must realise soon the market's crashed, all but for the very special cars!
Ok the red one's a re-shell but, has to mean something when you start putting big reduced stickers on things....

....and the £ has dropped 25% in that time so the reductions are even bigger in reality....

It's always the top end of the market that sees the greatest rises/falls to be fair, and with the crazy increase in prices we have seen over the past few years it was kind of inevitable they had to level off at some point, probably not a bad thing.
