signal orange RHD 2.2S

Post by vimal »

Gleaming in the late afternoon sun on collection day last week.

It's just had an engine rebuild at Redtek - so having to keep under 5K revs - but lovely to drive and a wonderful sound ! More pics to follow.

Very nice Vimal. Is this the same car you sent photos of to me? It has a different number plate?
Is this a 69S MY or a 70S MY?

Regards
Mike

Thanks all - v happy with it so far - although it has been pointed out that signal orange is very close to Sainsburys orange. The dog leg first takes a bit of getting used to but the driving experience is great (even at less than 5k revs) and will get better once I can make full use of the engine.

Mike - this is the same car that you have pics of - it's had a reg change. It was an august/sept 69 build, 1970 MY and was one of the first 1970 MY 2.2 S's in the UK. It was exported to Ireland and then brought back to the UK for restoration a few years ago. The restoration was done by GTR Motorsport (Tony Littlejohn) and engine rebuilt by Redtek.

Lovely. And even nicer in the flesh - pics don't fully do it justice. Wise choice, Vimal - that car has been done properly by someone who cares about attention to detail. Enjoy!

(I have a Signal Orange RHD 2.2S in restoration. I could have saved myself n years of pain and bought that one!)

Thanks Vimal

You look to have bought very well. One of 34 S models in Rhd imported and the first official year of signal orange. There is in existence a 69 S MY Rhd in signal orange which was a special order colour for that year which is why I asked the MY question.

I am going to suggest your garage will have two very splendid and contrasting coloured early cars
side by side. I would love to see a picture of that when they come together. I saw a picture on the early S registry some years ago of a guy's garage with a tangerine and a jade green pair of early 911's side by side and it was simply stunning. Richard will have a lovely pair too side by side.

Many congrats on your stable. Run that motor in carefully. You'll have plenty of time for fun next spring.

Regards
Mike

Looks great, I am sure you will have lots of fun. My first 911 was a RHD signal orange 2.2S, such fond memories.

Enjoy

Alan - sorry I couldn't speak earlier, will call you tomorrow.
What was the VIN of your Signal Orange car? Might be Vimal's or mine these days.

Cheers, Richard.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Richard - no problem posting the pics. Here's one of the interior

Image

Its been a fun few days getting to know the car. I have learnt a lot from this forum (and being 13 months into my 73 E restoration) but the previous owner went to lengths that I hadn't even considered - from the period correct stitched labels on the seatbelts (with their special receivers) to correctly marked nuts bolts and even a period correct toolkit and service book. There are also the special 2.2 S features like the aluminium engine lid and rear panel. All in all I feel very lucky to have been able to get this.

Alan - you refurbished the wheels on this (all correctly date stamped!)

The only problem is that it feel almost too special to drive - but I plan to overcome that and use it often (at least until the salt goes down) - it would be a shame for it to be locked away and not used. I will hopefully make it to one of the next DDK events.

Mike - a month or so to go until the E is ready and I am looking forward to seeing metallic green and signal orange side by side. Will definitely post pics when that happens. This was the E a few weeks ago - waiting now for the engine rebuild.
