Hella 128 identification needed

Post by redrobin911 »

HI - I bought these years ago on ebay and stored them in my garage and took them out today to look at fitting to a SWB 911. I've noticed that these 128's seem upside down i.e. the "hood" part of the housing is to the bottom if hung correctly on a 911, I can also see the drain hole so I can only assume these are designed to be mounted the opposite way i.e. standing up rather than hanging down. Needless to say these were advertised as 911 fitting and IMO not. Can anyone shed any light (excuse pun!!) on what I've got here and if I'm simply missing something - BTW i've tried turning the front face 180 degs but wont fit as the lights are not symetrical. If anyone knows what they'll fit I'll probably relist then back on ebay. thx in advance.

Merc fitment if the drain holes are where you state, although you should be able to flip the lens, rim and even the reflectors over if required.

I have one for on mine.

Edit Just reread you post. Cannot remember if mine have the hoods like yours, but I can definitely mount my rims up either way.

I don't think they're 128's - can you measure the width ??

128's are 145mm wide - those could be the narrower (~ 123 mm) lamps ...

They look like 127s to me but is difficult to tell from the pic.

128s you can take the glass / reflector section out and turn 180 degrees.

the Hella's that fit 190SLs / 300SL's are larger.

Had a quick google for the Hella 127's and they're the same as mine - any idea what the most popular fit was - for what car??

The parts book I have doesn't state what these originally fitted but I guess VW's would be a reasonable assumption.
