Re: Dating letter
I assume you mean a COA or Certificate of Authenticity. Porsche Club GB were handing these out free to members, I think they still might be - others will know. A copy of the kardex can also be had from the factory through various channels some no so official - its who you know etc.

The info on the kardex and the CoA are normally the same. I would suggest that you get the CoA first and if you think there are an issues over correctness then it might be worth getting the Kardex. Expect the kardex to cost c. £200 and all you'll get is a email with a image of it - that all. The kardex does have some other useful information such as key numbers, some warranty info if it was required plus original owner and dealer but the important stuff i.e. engine number, transmission number etc. are on the CoA.davidoft wrote:Thanks I thought I was a member of PCGB, seems I was only a web member not a full member, I'll fill in the paperwork, Who/ how do a contact for the kardex ?

Re: Dating letter
Robin is correct that the COA and Kardex generally contain the same information; that is because the COA is prepared by taking select information from the Kardex. I've never seen a COA with more info than a Kardex. This makes a COA redundant if you have the Kardex. The biggest problem with the Kardex is with early 356 sold through Hoffman in the US; I obtained one for a fellow and it had only the VIN and engine #. The thing is, the Kardex was often made up by the distributor, and if they were lazy then little info was recorded. The Kardex is just a warranty document, hence the primary dates are the invoice date from Porsche to dealer/distributor, and the warranty commencement date. Early warranty was just 6 months. Factory production records are a whole different story, little known, and very difficult to obtain.
