I don't want every google-user on the planet PM'ing me and wasting mine and the owners time..
The back story:
One of my very best friends, Jo's parents have an MGB GT - its a fairly handsome thing that was driven into their double garage about 20 years ago and never emerged again.. It got covered in boxes and tat and never driven since. Another of my best friends Elie (who is now Jo's other half) and I had a look at getting it running quite a while ago (I'd guess 10yrs based on the fact I have hair in one of the photos!) however when we got there I quickly the jerry can of fuel and pair of batteries I had in the boot of the car was NOT going to do it! The pictures below are from then NOT NOW hence its probably degraded further..
I'll be honest, I'm not sure what state its in now. Back then, things like brake lines were shot, things like the shell have visible surface rust underneath but might not be too horrendous compared to some other cars out there! Engine didn't run, but did turn over back then, brakes, gearbox, etc would want rebuilding I would guess as its not turned a wheel in a long time. Some of the other things like the webasto roof, some of the interior, chrome work, etc. isn't too bad and could be useful parts.. One thing that is really good is its 100% complete! And it has a webasto roof and an overdrive box, black interior, classic colour, etc. It was literally driven every day, then one day parked in the garage and left there forever
Now, Jo's parents, the owners, are hoarders - not people who have a bit of clutter, I mean HOARDERS! and Jo's dad is not very well. He's had ME for some time but he's also getting older and its not getting better. They're looking for somewhere to move too that is smaller and lower maintenance now both kids have left home, and need to get rid of lots of stuff, including the MG. Its in bad shape and they just want rid of it, however I'm hoping someone can take it away and do something more useful than crush it!
So there we have it - a reasonably well spec'd complete MGB GT that's sat in a dry garage for 20 plus years, a willing seller who wants it gone, and isn't expecting to get much (if any) money for it.
The kicker(s)..
1) They need it moving, no questions asked - they're NOT willing to entertain tyre kickers, haggling, etc., they want it gone with as little hassle as possible. If that means the scrap man turning it into tin-cans and freezers then so be it. Personally I think it deserves a better fate
I understand people want to come and look at expensive cars 2 or 3 times with different experts and things before they agree a deal - this isn't one of those situations, it basically needs to just be collected!
b) They are not capable of helping move it however Elie and I can help - the good bit is we're 16 stone each, the bad bit is we didn't get that way by spending hours in the gym!
we're also an hour away from the car, and elie has two kids so we almost certainly can't meet you there "tonight", but we are keen to help them get rid of it and to see it used for something other than feeding a crusher so if we're free and able we are availablethirdly - Its in Towcester near Silverstone - no we can't deliver it, no you won't be able to drive it home, and (as the brakes are almost certainly seized) no they do not want you spending 8hrs on their driveway freeing brakes off and things so you can tow it home on a rope!
In all seriousness you will need (at minimum) a trailer with a winch as I doubt we will be able to push it onto a trailer, however we can almost certainly move it TO a trailer. They have a big wide drive so this shouldn't be an issue
IV) They're hoarders - I guarantee they HAVE the paperwork, but I would bet my shirt they don't have a CLUE where it is!!
That said, it should be easy to get a V5 issued if required as they've owned it forever, and they will be happy to help the new owner do this
5) I have no ideas if this is a matching numbers car - my guess is it might be, however unless you're mental you're probably not looking at this as the basis of a concours restoration for your private car museum anyway!
f) it needs to be gone in the next 2 weeks or so
Pricewise, while this might not be a financially salvageable project (although I might be wrong) I think its a reasonably decent base if someone did want to restore it.
I also think its only fair they get SOMETHING for their little MG - I know how much the parts are worth from this car and if I had more space (and/or a more understanding wife) I'd take it myself and break it on ebay as I'm sure there's a grand profit in there to be had. Unfortunately I don't / she isn't, hence I'm trying to help my friends help their parents..
Given our generous nature in DDK, I thought maybe £100 for them and the same again for the DDK Macmillan fund, so £200 total? If you're feeling ultra generous Elie and I would have to drive home past McDonalds and we're "boys who like burgers"
I reckon there is a fairly fat profit margin in it at that price if someone wanted to break it, OR a lot of spare parts for not much cash if you already have one and need some bits.. ...but in all seriousness if I'm way off the mark / you're tighter than a ducks arse / you think cancer research gets too much funding already, then feel free to suggest a lower amount or a different deal.. I am literally just trying to prevent them ringing the scrap man as that's not going to help anyone (except the scrap man)
