914/6 Values
Im thinking about a 914/6, someone i know has one, and were chatting about it.
Any idea on where 914/6 are at? Assume a genuine, matching number 914/6, which is presentable, but un restored with MOT, something in between a project and fully restored, more of a rolling restoration car (Something you can drive and enjoy, and work on as funds allow).
Im not that confident in where the price is with them, and i don't want to get in too deep. If it was a 911 it would be easy to value, but in the UK, its hard to find one to compare against.

Re: 914/6 Values
In the US, real /6s in the condition you describe are fetching $40-50k. And rising.
Really nice condition original ones are already reaching the $80k bracket.
It wont be long before we see $100k for a real /6, all it will take is a concours pleasing original matching numbers example in an on trend colour and away we go...
The main challenge with the real /6 is that there were so few of them built, and they are in demand.
So you need to save your pennies up and be ready to pounce the instant a suitable car hits the market.
The other thing - for me anyway - is the engine in a real 6. Not quite enough power.
And if you do spend big on a real 6 and then think the same... are you going to want to splash out on a bigger engine to use until it's time to sell the /6 (with its original motor)?
So what you could do is - like many others - forget having a real /6 VIN and buy or build a /6 conversion.
Done right they are anywhere between 60-80% of the price of an equivalent real /6.
And finally a curve ball middle ground option for you, for $70k.
How about this: A real /6, restored in its (great!) original colour, but with a replacement 2.7L motor.
This one will sell quick... http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=283136

Re: 914/6 Values
Hi James,
thanks for the info. Very interesting. Funny enough the /6 im discussing with someone is signal orange like in your pic. I like it. I hear you on HP, only 110, not much more than the 105 euro version they made with the 4 cyc 2.0....but so much more money.
Did all the /6's have such big arches or just the GT's? The one im looking at looks like a 914, but the chassis number matches that of a /6. I of course need to verify its authenticity and im looking at that, an end etc. I suppose it will be stiffened in certain places, etc. Its definatly got a 911 engine it in, although I haven't authenticated it yet.

Re: 914/6 Values
Standard /6s were narrow body too.
The big arches were for the GTs... but is quite a common modification regardless of engine.
Not just for the aggressive looks, but also because fitting any wheels over 6inches requires widening to some degree.

Re: 914/6 Values
ok good, that means so far the /6 im looking at is genuine, so far were just talking, i'll have to sell my 911 to finance it, so hence why i was trying to get a decent handle on values.

Re: 914/6 Values
Pretty sure 914/6 originally came with the 2.2t engine meaning 125bhp, not a huge number by today's standards but also has increased torque when compared with a 2.0 4 cylinder so a noticeable difference.

Re: 914/6 Values
Original 6 cylinder cars had 2.0 911T motors - 110hp.
James, the car with GT arches looks great value at that price.

Re: 914/6 Values
Ian, et all, you are right (please ignore me!) I was thinking 914s were 1970 - 76 and therefore 6s were inline with the 2.2s of the 911 of 1970, when in fact they started in 69 so yes 2.0 is correct.

Re: 914/6 Values
Having owned a genuine 914/6, I can concur that they need more power, but the torque and, above all, the sound make up for any perceived shortcomings. Yes, the 2.0-litre 'four' is lighter and almost as powerful, but there really is no comparison. Plus, you get the ignition key on the correct side...

Probably didn't sell for full asking price, but we are close enough (and this was over a year ago...):23e Heure wrote:It wont be long before we see $100k for a real /6, all it will take is a concours pleasing original matching numbers example in an on trend colour and away we go...

Re: 914/6 Values
all very usefull.
Im just going to throw some numbers around. That green one was preety special. I guess for a decent car, not restored, but presentable, good paint, no major issues (i.e good engine/gearbox/chassis), i'm thinking market price must be in the £35 - £60K bracket.
I read a buyers guide recently written in 2015 (october) that £40k was really for a top /6
http://www.classicandperformancecar.com/porsche/914
The green one you posted trashes that idea, but its good to have some pessimism and optimisim. I found one sold by coys in the UK in 2015 for £35k and one by some other UK auction house of £21k in 2014. Ive also found some evidence that a recent at a bonhams auction in paris (2016) didnt get any where near is 85k EUR estimate, and was unsold. All were tidy cars, but of course you only get a few pics.
In any case, ive gained some confidence, and we will see which way the wind blows. I'll keep researching, so feel free to keep commenting!

Re: 914/6 Values
The blue 914/6 rep that was at Gmund was a pretty nice car with a 69 (I think) 2.0 motor on MFI. Previously owned on here, but I can't remember by whom. It was £30k. I was mildly tempted but it was very slow - no oomph at all.
I think a 914/6 needs some pep to make it work well.

I here you on the power, if i buy it, i'll probally fit a 2.7 or etc motor, and keep the orginal matching number motor on the shelf so i dont accidently blow it up, ive been thinking the same for my 2.4 911, just getting too valuable as matching number, and with the soft mag cases, and the way i like to drive it, it needs to be sitting high and dry instead! lol
