Decoding my CoA
CoA arrived this morning. Was interested in the optional equipment listing and there are some areas that would benefit from explanation to a newbie.
First of all, it is a 72S built in November 1971. Original colour is Metallic Green (224) although the car is currently white. I doesn't have its original engine but this has been replaced with a year correct 2.4S engine originally put in a sportomatic. Delivered originally to the US and although not on the COA, i believe the first owner was in California.
The interior is listed as brown leather and it comes with the following options:
Blaupunkt Frankfurt
Konis
White fog lights
Coloured windows
Rear impact protection
Power windows
This seems to me, again as a newbie on this, to be a reasonably high spec with the power windows, leather interior etc. What i don't know the implication of are:
1. Konis - I thought these were standard on the S? Perhaps not in the US??
2. White fog lights - I presume these are the Hella TTG 118 lights mounted through the horn grilles (the car currently has grilles with no fog light holes)
3. What are 'coloured windows'?
4. Rear impact protection - what is this?
The option list doesn't mention sport seats but i would have thought someone ordering leather interior, power windows, etc would have had sport seats so i am going to fit those anyway. It currently has standard recaros in vinyl.
Finally, how brown is 'brown leather' compared to tan. I have heard it described as 'tobacco' before which is quite dark....
Any help in decoding these options would be of interest and a great help.
Regards
Andrew

Re: Decoding my CoA
Hi Andrew
Almost certainly the rear impact protection will be a Nerf bar.
I think you might find a 'brown' interior IS tan when used to describe vinyl. The description of 'tan' (and I am as guilty as anyone) has been made up over the years because we think it more accurately describes the colour we see. Much in the same way as 'lightweight' has been made up to describe a 1973 RS 'sport' model. There is a darker vinyl which i have seen described as 'cinnamon'. I am not as sure either of these terms, tan and cinnamon, applies to the leather option however. This is a 73E with what are claimed to be original brown leather sports seats.
Regards
Mike

The rear impact protection could have been an Amco bar. Did Porsche supply these ?

Re: Decoding my CoA
You are right Mike. A US car may well have had that type of bar.

Re: Decoding my CoA
Hi Andrew, the factory rear impact protection bar option for the 72-73 model year was a one piece bar as shown in the attached photos. Cheers Phil

Re: Decoding my CoA
thanks phil, that is really helpful. I will keep my eye out for one of those. Not sure how much impact it will protect you from, i guess more of a nudge bar.

Re: Decoding my CoA
It's called a Nerf bar.
You will need the rear overriders to go with it. They have a hole to accommodate the bar on each one and the black rubber bumpers are the short version (not just long ones cut down). They usually are sold as a complete set.
Same with the American version above, they have different holes to the nerf bar version and take the standard rubbers. Mikes picture above is with non rubber swb version.
