Tyre size queries

Post by Jesse »

Hi! I know this has been discussed a matter of times but I just can´t seem to find an thread that suits my querie.

I´m having trouble deciding on what tire size to run for street use on my 71 with RS flares, it sits on 7 & 8´s and is currently fitted with 205/225/50 R15 Pirelli P7´s but it sits a tad low and I do prefer the look and overall handling of higher sidewalls..

My options are:

195/65 front
215/60 rear

Unsure if they will fill enough in the rear...

And

205/60 front
225/60 rear

Unsure if they are too ballony....?

(I wont be buying any race tyres but some decent Continentals or such)

Anyone?

You need 15mm spacers on the rear to create the RS look with 215/60 on 8 inch.
The fronts should be 185/70 on 7 inch to match the taller profile.

I understand 225/60 on the rear would look better on 9 inch but I have never tried that combo.

Mike

I've never fitted 15mm spacers on the rear with 8in Fuchs & 216/60 tyres Mike - do you have them on your car ?

Jesse - you need either:

185/70 (F) + 215/60 (R) or 195/65 (F) + 215/60 (R)

- whichever tyre you can find with the same tread pattern F/R

225/60 tyres (on any width wheel) on a 911 will make it look like a tractor ! ...

I thought 185 might be a little tight on 7" wheels?

What are all the RS rep guys with 7 & 8´s using? Must be many on here?

Really appreciate your input!

Jesse

What's the difference between a rep and a real one?

Andy

Yes, I believe they are 15mm but I will check. (they might be less).

Andy

The original spec on the RS rear was 7mm spacers and slightly longer studs so that's probably what I have. I knew there were spacers on there of some kind. It's a long time since I looked.........

Mike

I'm running 225/60 and 205/60 Contis on my 911. It has 7 & 8" wheels and RS flares:

Works ok, but I did have to raise the car a little to stop rubbing on full lock.
