Bilstien Suspension front lock ring

Morning

Mark kindly transported some new shiny Bilstien struts over from MM to the UK for me last week (thanks again Mark).

They do look nice.

One bit of frustration is that the front shocks that fit into the tube/hub assembly have a different pattern lock ring to the originals so Ive no way of tightening them up with out buying a special tool.

The tools Ive seen on the internet look flimsy 1 use only type of things, Id just assume Bilstien would have popped one in each box. MM want 19 euros and shipping etc.

Any thoughts? vice and turn like hell or is there another way of getting a hold of the tool more locally?

The rears went on very simply though...

I made my own tool. But I've also done them up by hand as much as possible then nipped them up using a screw driver and some taps with a hammer to tighten it up the final little bit (just be careful not to scratch the shock piston with the screwdriver)

I use a Pipe wrench on the circumference of the nut to tighten or loosen the various different insert mounting nuts.

I used an 18" pair of stilsens but that's how I roll!

morning I tried the vice route and used disc and hub to turn and tighten. Worked a treat.

One follow up question I have though. The strut came with a rubber bush that fits on the top passed the threaded section. What Im not sure about is it if the bush fits below or above the protective tube?

Any ideas?

aha a note on 914 world says the rubber washer is for shipping purposes and it should be discarded... thats nice and easy then bin it is....

Ill have a go at putting them in tonight!
