Bowing out

Post by Bootsy »

Life has become hectic for me. Big life changes, again!

I'm happy but so so manic and my available time to put into all things DDK just isn't there anymore.

It's become more so apparent over the last couple of days with a particular incident which has highlighted my slackness and with sadness I'm going to step down and call it a day - I'm always happy to help but as I've always said when it's not fun anymore it's not for me

Probably best to try and find a way forward to keep this community going rather than pursue the offer to sell it as it would only change and fade away if I did

Any thoughts appreciated but it's going to take more than one person this time I think. It's a complicated beast these days and not sure how I can migrate it all to somebody but best to start thinking and planning

Thoughts on a postcard

Cheers

Sorry to hear this, you have done a sterling job-I wish I could come up with a solution to keep it going forward but I can honestly say I too don't know the answer. Like most people I have very little spare time to give, work commitments dictate this.

Best of luck

Hard decision I'm sure chap and not one you've arrived at lightly. DDK is a welcoming place of true and real value, the smooth-running of which is appreciated by all of us. Good luck Bettsy.

Sell it, retire on the money and start a new one - we'll all follow !

Great job you've done Thomas, well done.

Good Grief!

First thing I read this morning, but what a job you have made of this.

I do not know the intricacies of running a web page, but it must be very tough most of the time and easy to think it runs 'automatically'.

I wish you all the very best to finding a calmer or more comfortable future. Having taken early retirement last Xmas searching for such a utopia it has worked for me so well, I hope you can find the same balance.

This is a very very good community, you have kept such a good shop.

Really sorry to hear that Thomas, but entirely understand why. DDK is the best run forum that I have visited, I hope that you can find a like-minded buyer so that it can continue....
In 24 hours Eric dies, and Bootsy bows out of DDK........

Cheers!

Very surprised and sorry to hear that Bootsy. You ran a well organized and diverse forum. That said , life is full of surprises and sometimes it's time to move on.
Best of luck for the future and thanks for all your efforts.

Having run a classic car forum over here for about 4 years a while ago I can sympathise, it is hugely demanding of your time, not just the maintenance of the website and moderation of the forum, but all the other enquires and emails it generates outside of the forum. In the end I sold mine to someone who wanted a site high up on google. The forum side has since collapsed though sadly.

We have such a great community here that it would be a shame to see that happen, however you should take the route that suits you.

I guess the ideal solution would be that someone here with an IT background/business takes on the software and hosting responsibility and a few others with some spare time take on the moderation side of it.

Anyhow, good luck with the ventures in your life, I hope stepping down from the forum doesn't mean we won't see you at the various DDK trips.
Cheers

I echo all the above. DDK has contributed enormously to my classic porsche experience and I hope will continue to do so for years to come. But individuals must always be free to move on and do what is right for them, well done Thomas and thanks .
