exhaust gasket

Hello
I'm having a little trouble trying to get a good seal between exhaust and back box flanges. Am looking for a much thicker gasket: any ideas? Is it as simple as buying some gasket material and cutting out your own? could you double up for twice the thickness or would that not work?
Can you do it with copper - or is that tricky to cut at required thickness.
Anyone less inept than me (not a particularly high bar to get over) have any suggestions?

Hi Will,
are you using 'proper' gaskets? The OEM ones are double sided copper with copper ring. I don't know if you are supposed to, but I smear a bit of exhaust paste on the faces as well.
Don't tighten straps to hanger until you have got a good fit and tightened up joints.

Many thanks Ian ...good point. I cant remember if I did the straps first or the gasket first: i think straps. I will try again with some new "proper" gaskets and some of the hylomar stuff for good measure.

Hi, proper exhaust assembly paste is a good bet and in extremis silicon sealer ( yes you read that right) is usefull on exhaust joints , but not the head flanges. Ian is dead right regarding the sequence of assembly.
