Alternator replacement

Hello everybody, I am finishing the restoration of my 68 Porsche 912 Targa. One of my last hurdles is to replace the generator by a beetle alternator. The problem is to accommodate the larger diameter of the alternator. Did anyone try to machine to size the support base? Thanks and regards
