History of my car
History of my car
Like Simon James on here i am also trying to trace any of the early history of my car 808GWN 1962 RHD T6 and would love to find any old pictures or contact any of the
old owners.
Mine is 122369 which i am led to believe is a 1962 car but on the V5 It says not registered until 1965, also says previously registererd and/or used overseas.
Where did she go????
Also on the Kardex it says sold to Harvey through Jennings? Any ideas people.
I spoke to Mike Smith who i bought the car off a while back and i think we drew a blank on it's early history.
Anyway the restoration is getting near to paint but is on hold while we move house and into my new double garage workshop and hopefully get finished.
Just thought i would run this by you good folk.
Regards Andy James.

Re: History of my car
Hey Andy, good to see another RHD, they suddenly come out of the woodwork all at once!
Anyway, as far as the later registration of your car goes, I have ANOTHER car that was sold through AFN on New Years Day 1960, However this car was picked up from Stuttgart by its first owner and was not registered in the UK until 1963, (The alert ones among you will now realise that I have not one, but two original RHD cars...) so it was registered with a '63 number. Before this point it had been on diplomatic plates. I have a letter from AFN written in the early eighties which confirms this, signed off by a certain Denis Jenkinson.....
Good Luck with your quest!

It doesn't matter if you speak your mind, because those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter.......!
Lusting after a 30/98, will settle for a 23/60.

Hi Simon
Thanks for reply, very interesting, possibly my car had a similar early life, would love to find out what ' sold to Harvey through jennings' means
And your car signed off by Jenk's, fantastic!
Will live in hope.
Regards, Andy.

Re: History of my car
Andy J,
In 1992 your car was registered with a Mr G Neale. 808 GWN 1962 Coupe with a 616/1 engine.
This car was known to the PCGB in August of that year. G Neale had the membership number 04897
with the PCGB. I wonder if you wrote to them and advised you now own his car if they would pass on his address??? or if he still belongs to PCGB?? Worth while asking although 22 years ago now.

Hi Roy
Managed to get Mr Neale's Address so going to write to him, hopefully he's still lives there and he's got a big pile of old photos.
Thanks Roy

Re: History of my car
Hi all, thanks for the kind words
Just had an email from the the guys at PR services, with a bit more info on my car so a big thanks again to them, the first owner was a J T Harvey, sold by AFN
and i believe the salesmans name was Jennings, 981st car sold by AFN, Letters have been sent to previous owners that i know of so i'll wait and see.
I was thinking of changing the colour to silver but now im not sure, this is a none matching numbers car so originality is already out of the window ,
the other thing is i have bought a red complete interior kit so if i keep it Smyrna Green i will need to get another interior in Brown, More money!
and was also thinking of a mild outlaw look, the other thing about Smyrna green is i dont think i have ever seen two picture of cars that look the same colour
I wonder how many cars in the UK are in this colour?
