VIDEO: Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I was driving my 912 today, enjoying the beautiful weather we had on Sunday, when I noticed the car started to misfire slightly.

I pulled over and it was making this weird noise, anybody got any thoughts?

From a little digging I am looking at new HT leads and coil to eliminate that as a possibility. I've had the 022 distributor fully reconditioned by Glenn Ring so I'm pretty certain it's not that. I'm baffled!

Mine used to do that - not quite as regularly but often on tick over. However i never found out what was causing it so can offer no help unfortunately.

Let me know if you do find out as i"d like to know out of interest

Could be any number of things, (although to me it sounded like the timing could be ever so slightly out, have you checked your dizzy clamp is tight?) you need to go through your ignition system methodically checking each component and failing that you then need to look at the fuel system.

I too fitted a Glenn Ring 022 and timed it in perfectly, mine popped as well, and thought the carbs were running rich, after cleaning them all out, and checking there was no air leaks on the manifolds, I slowly adjusted the distributor by hand, which cured the issue.

The distributor may be brand new/reconditioned, but the associated parts/drive it fits into could have slight wear, sometimes finding a 'sweet spot' by ear cures the issue.

The pop also comes from air leaks, so make sure the manifolds are bolted up tight, or you have't got hole in the exhaust somewhere?

Don't forget the condenser either as this has an input on your points burning out (I take it the gap is correct for them?)

I spent a good few hours after work playing with the car tonight and I found that even thou I had tightened the distributor clamp fully, when the engine was warm it was really easy to turn. I checked the timing and it was not where I had set it previously (which was 33 degrees advanced at 3000+ RPM which meant I was getting approx 1-2 degrees advance at 900RPM).

I removed the distributor and clamp, detached the clamp from the distributor and then armed myself with a hammer. I then 'tapped' the clamp until it offered a tighter fit.

I have now re-installed said clamp and distributor (with a slightly tightened fit, re-set the timing to what i said above and so far so good...

I have ordered a new clamp to try and stop this happening in the future.
