Let me introduce myself, I have been in the shadows for many years. My name is Gavin and I am 4 decades ish young !.... I have been fortunate to own a string of performance cars starting with a BMW E30 Evolution 2 No 285/500, the first car imported by BMW GB. I have always been a Porsche nut as my Father had beetles and admired the marque and my Uncle worked for the R&D department in Weissach in the early 70’s developing the exhaust driven turbine; "turbo" upon the early tanks, he went onto become director of technology at Vickers developing the gyroscopic self levelling gun on the Chieftain and gained an OBE for his pioneering work and I believe he was a lifelong honorary member of PCGB; sadly he left us a few years ago

Newbie from Essex says hello...
Hi DDKers,
Let me introduce myself, I have been in the shadows for many years. My name is Gavin and I am 4 decades ish young !.... I have been fortunate to own a string of performance cars starting with a BMW E30 Evolution 2 No 285/500, the first car imported by BMW GB. I have always been a Porsche nut as my Father had beetles and admired the marque and my Uncle worked for the R&D department in Weissach in the early 70’s developing the exhaust driven turbine; "turbo" upon the early tanks, he went onto become director of technology at Vickers developing the gyroscopic self levelling gun on the Chieftain and gained an OBE for his pioneering work and I believe he was a lifelong honorary member of PCGB; sadly he left us a few years ago
.. My first Porsche was an 1986 930 I imported from Spain; no half measures here ! sadly I lost the car in an accident and replaced it with a speed yellow 968 CS. I always hankered that high revving engine the M3 had and by pure chance when my 930 salvage ended up at 911 bodyshop I saw Crispin’s RS replica, I was smitten and pursued owning one. I drove a couple of examples and the motor was sonorous the handling lithe and the shape uncluttered and pure class. I eventually bought a backdated 1974 Carrera to M1471 which had a hard life in sprints and hill climbs but was a very well sorted potent car with all the right parts; this was over ten years ago and life etc has got in the way of restoring the car. Initially I bought a mint 89 3.2 shell as mine was rotten/bent/modified and expert opinion dictated a re shell was the best solution, the shell procured was a stolen recovered 40k miler I sourced from Bruce at Sportwagen with Richard aka Lionels help and advice. I employed a local restoration firm to rebuild the car sadly this ended badly as they saw the cars value rocket and over charged me accordingly and as they had my asset I settled the bill and took the car away uncompleted. Lesson learnt; I collated advice and original RS parts and was fortunate to encounter Andy Boyle in them early years and find him a great source of advice and help to date. Fast forward to now and I am fiscally able to complete the car, as an ex engineer I am looking for quality work at an affordable rate and kick myself I never used Barry Carter nearly a decade ago before everyone else caught up. So that’s moi ! …… I have at last joined the community of fellow Porschephiles and welcome any advice regarding bodyshops, engineers etc or help oh and a big hello to you all ….. Gavin

Welcome. Sounds like you have lots of skills already and will find many on here to help.
