refurbing indicator lenses

has anyone tried to refurbish their indicator lenses?? i have a set on the front of my 911 which are basically in very good condition.. apart from some of the mirror finish around the edges of the lense has started to fade..

i have spoke to a guy at frost reto products and he has recommended a chrome spray to refurb them... but in its desription it doesn't say it can be used on plastic?? he talked about a mirror refinishing spray but couldn't remember the manufacturer or name of the product??

has anyone ever tried to refurb lenses and does anyone recommend any products

any advice or ideas would be greatly received

I did a similar thing to my otherwise perfect rear lenses a couple of years ago - just used a cheap 'bright silver' aerosol.

Thanks Andy they look lush... a really nice finish.. would you think a chrome spray or bright silver would be better?? what spray did you use and did you remove the original paint before you applied the new top coat... nice looking silver 911 from what i can see i must add!!!

A few years back i had the chrome plastic reflector backs from my Gwagen rechromed by the London Chroming Centre, Old Kent Rd, SE15. Can't remember if they did it themselves or parted it out but it was a superb job and very cheap...

Bazz,
The original chrome is on the inside so you should be able to spray onto the outer surface without too much trouble.

I need to do my rear lenses so would be interested in detail shots once you've refined the process!

I sprayed the rims of my lenses on the outside.

I bought some lenses with tatty chrome off ebay. I was saving this for a wet sunday afternoon job but was going to remove the chrome and put a line of silver paint round the INSIDE. Is this the wrong thing to do then?

Nick, I tried this with my lenses, didn't give the result you might hope for, hence the painting on the outside that Andy recommends

Unless you can get all the remaining chrome off without scratching or matting the inner surface the look of the paint is very poor. I even tried this with 'chrome' paint, still looked rubbish! It's going on the outside next time
