wurth paint for fuchs

hi there i have read posts in the past about polishing and detailing your rims... i have downloaded and printed off nic's wheel refurb HOW DO YOU on the fanzine which is excellent but it doesn't reccommend what paint to detail them with..

i have visited the wurth site but there are a couple of different finish paints... what finish should i be using.. think there is a couple of matt & satin black paints listed.. has anyone got a part number of the correct paint to use..

also before adding this paint as a top coat would you etch prime first?? then how many coats of wurth and should i flat after each coat??

any advice would be excellent

I used wurth satin paint last year to restore my Fuchs.

You need to use primer and one coat of wurth.

The part number is 893 349 005 and its called laquer spray satin gloss.

I bought three cans and used about one and a half to do five wheels.

I use an acid etch first, but many do'nt. In aerosol form it's not cheap but does the job. Unless you really want to I can’t see the benefit of flatting between coats.

I agree: the only reason you would really need to flat between coats is a) You'd got an orange-peel finish (highly unlikely with a can) or b) To de-nib any dust/tut/muck in the paint.

If you needed to flat off, ideally leave the wheel overnight to really harden off, otherwise the wet-and-dry might tear the surface of the paint, making the problem look worse, and also making it more likely to 'pickle' slightly on the flatted edges when the next coat goes on.
