new from Devon

Post by Dave357 »

Hi
Always loved boxer engines flat fours and flat twins.
Started of with a Douglas MkV 1953 Which went bang on the way Brands Hatch in the early sixties !
then 1952 VW 1200 beetle, replaced with a 1500 beetle in the 70's VW 411 LE variant (great car for a family)
1600 VW camper van a succession of Citron 2cv's

Currently BMW R45 473cc twin BMW R1100rs sports tourer and 1950 Douglas mkIV sport 350cc (all boxer twins)

4500cc Landcruiser with roof tent, fridge, cooker. for overland travel !
A friend of my Son needed to sell his 356 Chesil speedster (new baby son) I had been looking at the cost of Porsche 356 Speedster's and nearly had a fit !
Deal done a 1963 Chesil Speedster built by Chesil as a demonstrator in 1994/5 with 24000 miles (1800 twin Solex carbs and low ratio box.
Ten days after we got it went through it end to end and serviced.
We had booked a trip to France (ferry + Gite) to go on the RS, a quick call to Britany ferries and changed it to the 356.
We did 1500 miles that week, all on D roads, (the first day in heavy Rain)
The hood didn't leak much, but we hit standing water hard a couple of times, (the next day when we went to we had water sloshing around our feet!!
The out on dry traffic free twisty roads, great fun, the grin on my face after a set of bends.
Great time.
Some mods to do, to try and get a more original look.
Going to try to attach some pictures
regards
Dave

Welcome to DDK Dave. Sound like you're enjoying the speedster.

A few pics of the R45 and Douglas won't go amiss either!

Just need to sort out the img tags...

Dave,

Your Chesil looks great, really nice. And you can drive it anytime and as you have already done in the rain too. I did ride a Douglas flat twin once or twice in the 60's. They always looked so interesting then and you never saw many on the roads. I can see why you like them.

Welcome along.
