New blood ....
Looks like the UK is bucking the trend lamented recently on the Registry concerning the lack of new blood in the 356 world.
I know of 5 new converts personally, all within the past 9 months - and all could reasonably be described as young blood - new to the marque and new to the good old 356. With a good few more actively eager to buy a 356 and join the ranks.
With the recent additions to the fold that are active on this forum as well it is positive stuff, and hopefully bodes well for the suppliers and hoarders who are vital to the cause.
The 356 line up at Hedingham wasn't particularly well subscribed this year - admittedly with the 911/50 thing going on it wasn't a surprise .. But maybe next year a batch of fresh cars will swell the ranks and put on a great display ?

I hope so too.
I will make a point of stirring up the people I mentioned, and also steer them towards this place.
Tom, I would agree that many of the new people are from a primarily VW background. It always seemed a natural progression to me and with such close ties it often works the other way too.
The blue car is pretty special - just trying to nail the wheel choice at the moment.

I tend to agree with you. It seems that alot of us have a
VW past. I have never been without an air cooled car
of which nearly all were VW or derivatives.
I feel that there could be some
good few years ahead with those who have experienced
the older VW events and may want to get involved in 356
representation.
If a big effort was made in the months leading
up to Hedingham then I am sure a DDK /356
contingent would be quite a large number.

IMO there has definitely been an increase in 356 related 'traffic' here on DDK with both new cars and new owners - all of which is a very good thing for the marque

Hi guys
I have been watching in the wings for some time, I suppose I am the mid generation (just about to turn 50) 356er.
When I got into 356's from beetles back in the 80's I was helped out by a great guy Tony Standen who unfortunately passed away several years ago. His enthusiasm was infectious and his skills irreplaceable and I learned a lot about 356's and life from him.
I have restored many cars over the years just as a hobby.
Here is a list to give you an idea.
1979 Lambretta GP200 (my first wheels)
1964 Messerschmitt Kr200 (bought it for £500 and it’s now in a museum in Japan)
1966 Karmann Ghia (rust, rust and chicken wire, enough said)
1959 Porsche 356A RHD Coupe (drove it everywhere and spent too many hours keeping it driving, and it’s still driving around the UK)
1967 Beetle (had to pass this one on quick due to brakes that didn’t brake)
1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D (this one I miss the most, took six years to complete)
Another Lambretta (made it look just like the one I had as a kid, drove it once and scared myself stupid, four wheels yes, three wheels are OK but not two)
Another Messerschmitt (this time it’s a 1959 Kr201 that I’m building for my son)
1944 Porsche Type 82 Kubelwagen (it took seven years to restore and I sold it last year)
1939 Messerschmitt Bf109E (Loads of bits and pieces lying all over the house and workshop, one day I will stick them all together)
So I'm not saying that I know everything but would be more than happy to help out any younger 356'ers with their cars.
I have a pretty well stocked workshop here in Epsom Surrey and I'm always happy to share a coffee/beer and advice at the weekends (I still have a full time job to hold down).

To my knowledge the only military vehicle designed and manufactured by Porsche was the post WW2 Type 597 Jagdwagen which was produced between 1955 - 58.
Speaking of WW2 how on earth did you procure the BF109e?! That's amazing! I'd love more information about that, those things are worth a fortune!

Good to see 2 x Lambretta's in that list.
I too had one as my first ride (I am much older than you), and a Wildcat GT 200 after that.
That one scared me silly so bought my first car after a 3rd fall-off that ripped my Parka and Union Jack painted helmet. (told you I was older!)
Hope to retire early soon, and have a TV 175 Series III project to do. Not sure i can resist to ride it...

I wants a fiddy-sicks, but can't afford an A and I'm not sure I could own a B> without always looking at it and wishing it was an A.
Since I'm no purist I live in hope of finding a solid but bastardised A with a VW motor that no one else wants so is cheap.
