Hi everybody, directly from my presentation in "new members"

I would like to start my restoration thread
Image

911 2,2 T year 1970, not so bad...just in the picture... and looking at the front...

bad red repainting, originally "Signalgelbe", some rust on sills and jack receiver, front tank support changed few years ago...the same for rear floor

engine running...a little bit popping and misfiring but seems good

momo steering wheel, front Scheel seats (I didn't know this brand before...)

unfortunately rear has bubbled hood in blue and a white rear valance(here not on)...that I obtained instead of RS Style ducktale and badly inserted and crashed "porsche" reflecting valance "G" series

Image

Next step an oil change, new contact breaker points correctly set, timing setting and carbs adjusting (carbs already cleaned with gaskets and all new...) ...out for a short drive test in order to understand well engine and gearbox health state and then...ready to start disassembling all from body to get it sorted and repainted...it will be long...also for budget reason :? and time availability but I will ensure you a pictures-rain for all of you interested in ;)

hi everybody, many months since my promise of many picture but time to dedicate to the project is never enough and during winter...cold garage didn't help

anyway I started from

Image

Image

Image

safety first... rebuilding calipers, discs, pads, pump and a big "service" to the engine(oil, plugs, points, carbs refurbishment, plugs wire...) waiting to drive it rolling road in order to be sure that engine (good compression tested) is good as well as gear box

Image

good confirm...runs well, no smoke...apart from typical initial after-long-stay...
2 drive by for you :bounce:
Image
Image

on the wave of enthusiasm...starting of dismantling to start metal and painting...

Image
Image
Image

...expected rust..
Image

unexpected crazy of former owners !!!! ...speakers on rear parcel shelf...cut like a fishfood box...
Image

... I knew that there was filler on it... but you can never predict how much...
Image

ok I need sandblasting and get it naked to bare metal (if any metal left...)

ok ...I think that pictures are evidence that...I need many parts replaced more than welded...
fortunately front floor pan is good(already changed) front and rear suspension fixing are good, doors need minor welding in lower part, base of front and rear screen fortunately perfect

big €€ $$ ££ impact due to new front wings needed, rear bumpers, rear floor, new sills :bom: :bom:

ok I'm on the dancefloor....I will dance  although this restoration topic is becoming a "rescue" topic

now is back home receiving visits from metal workers/paintshop workers to get best offer...while i'm filling shopping list of body parts...

what do you advice me between "sportwagen eckert" and "restoration design" in terms of body parts quality?

furthermore your ddkmembers experience needed...what about the bucket seats I found on? very similar to recaro/ rs type but the brand is "Scheel" as shown on seats itself (australian brand as I found on the web...)

I want to keep them(refurbished obviously...) although I will restore the car to original "T" specs apart from seats and steering wheel (sorry guys but I find ORRIBLE the original one   )

I would always suggest going directly to Porsche.

Deep down many cars are like yours Max

Quite a project you have there, best of luck and will follow your progress with interest.

Cheers,

Hi Max, thanks for the update. You have work to do, but at least you know where you stand now. Nothing hidden any more!

If the question is - authentic / period / worth keeping (the Scheel seat)?
You might find this link interesting:

It's certainly true that Scheel seats were used at time of original manufacture of the cars, including in some of the factory competition cars. So, I would say, if your Scheels are authentic then they are a nice period upgrade.
Cheers, Richard.
