993RS

Post by aircooled »

I know this is a bit recent for some of you chaps but looking for some help please.

I have a 993RS I have owned for over 12 years, it was originally from Hong Kong and I was told it was the last right hand drive car made. It certainly has a chassis no later than any of the others I have seen.

is there anyway of verifying this? It was sold in January 1996, 390837 are the last numbers

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks

I don't think the sold date tells you much (Porsche weren't selling many cars in 1995/96, some hung around in the showroom for a while) but the chassis number seems late in the sequence.
I don't know about the HK cars but I'm guessing Porsche would build in batches.
Many of the RHD cars I know of are in the 0500's.
My UK car was sold early August 1995 and is about 280 cars earlier than yours.
Mine wasn't the last one built so it's not worth much.

so just testing out my little red book (which my wife found for me today) it lists 993RS in the S program from 94-95 and lists 0001 to 0274!
That doesn't sound right.

Is the build label still under the bonnet ? Or in the Service Book ?

If so, does it show C16 or C18 in the first option code position ?

C16 is K and I believe that C18 is Hong Kong.

Also, who was the supplying dealer ?

The source of all things 993RS says....There are later cars, one in the uk and one in south africa and another don't know where, its a late build though, chassis numbers dont always follow though!

THe build label is there. I had a chassis check from PCUK some years ago. I think it is C18 for Hong Kong but I need to check.

There is only one dealer in Hong Kong, Jebsen. There were 9 cars sold in Hong Kong new, I think 3 in Singapore too. Not sure re Australia and NZ. There was a special version for Japan which was a sort of RS/C2 hybrid I seem to recall.

Thanks for all the information so far everyone.

Have you contacted Paul Howells, the 993RS Register Sec at PCGB?

Seems that there was a South African chap who had a white 993RS who developed a WW list of chassis numbers with some spec details for the cars he heard about. He emigrated to Australia and sadly died a couple of years ago.

His records show the first car as ZSS390001, the last as ZTS390849. He also has a list of Clubsports.
