Over and over again, I get calls from clients wanting to know what would be a good Porsche investment. I keep telling them that a Porsche vintage racecar with history…hands down. The challenge lately has been the market. The prices have skyrocketed on these cars and getting a fresh car with history that you can go out and enjoy today for under a half million dollars is getting to be almost impossible. Plus, good cars just don’t become available too often.
When my client called and asked me to help him market this car, I was extremely excited. The 1974/75 RSR configuration is by far one of my favorite cars. They are simple and beautiful while having this menacing stance that you don’t want to see in your rear view mirror. I believe that these cars were the final and best iteration of early Porsche 911 racing history. Shortly after these cars, the turbo era seemed to dominate the racing scene.
This vintage Porsche is eligible for worldwide premier vintage-racing series.
Most people don’t understand that unless a vintage racecar has a period FIA/IMSA race history (like this Porsche) they will NOT be allowed to participate in the exclusive vintage events. This is HUGE!
With its IMSA racing history and FIA credentials, you can enter all of the best events like the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Rennsport Reunion, Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports, LeMans Classic, and much more. Plus, you can have a fresh and competitive car that is a blank slate to create whatever you wish.
This RSR was built in the late 70’s from a 1977 911 S body. The car was extensively raced by privateer, Ted Hulse in SCCA and then in the early 1980’s, it began its IMSA/FIA career. It raced at all the premier events including Watkins Glen 6 Hours, Daytona 24 Hours, Sebring 12 Hours, Road Atlanta, Pocono, Charlotte, and Lime Rock. Two highlight finishes were 14th overall at the Charlotte IMSA race in 1985 and 4th in GTO class at the Watkins Glen 6 hour IMSA/FIA race in 1984.
