1968 Porsche 911 2.0 SWB LHD

A bright, solid and superb to drive short-wheel-base 911.

This cracking LHD early car was brought over from the USA in 2004 and has been the personal car of the proprietor of a classic Porsche parts business ever since. 1968 is a one-year only model for the 911, featuring the same attractive brushed aluminium dash trim as 1967 cars, but white-numeral dials, different door handles, interior door cards and various other details that differentiate it.

It is currently presented as something of a light weight hot rod and badged as a 911 S, though many of the parts to put it back to standard are available with the car if required.

The car is fitted with 15 x 6 Fuchs all round, a firmer front anti-roll bar from a later car and a short-shift gear lever. Inside are 1970s Recaro style sports seats and a 380mm RS size steering wheel. Sound deadening has been removed from the engine bay and the Weber carbs are fitted with PMO air filters and rain covers. This all combines to give the car a brilliantly sporting character that urges you to press on and enjoy the drive. It revs eagerly, rortily and quickly to the red line and makes very brisk progress, its light weight making the very most of its 125bhp.

It has the original, matching number engine, which is in fine, leak-free shape having had a top end rebuild since import.

Underneath is rock solid, it has needed no work since import and needs nothing now. Unlike many US cars it is largely original and work that has been done has been sympathetic and to a very good standard making this a superb early 911 with no surprises. It is just serviced and ready to drive and enjoy on the road, or with very little work could have an FIA HTP for historic competition.

We had agreed to sell this car to a DDK member who has had a change of circumstances. It was inspected for him by Terry Allen at Porsche Curves who gave it an entirely clean bill of health.
