1972 Porsche 911 2.4 T-E

The 2.4 911s are the final iteration of the classic early 911 shape and the improved power and handling over the earlier cars makes them perhaps the most desirable.

There were always three models in the 2.4 line up; the carburetter fed T and fuel injected E and S. The European Ts stayed like this but the US market later got a fuel-injected T now known as the T-E, this car is one of those and has the same mechanical fuel injection system as the 2.4 E and S and the 2.7 RS. The T-Es make a very good car for those looking for a 911 with a good, broad torque band and the efficiency of fuel-injection but who aren't looking for the screaming top end performance of the E and S.

1972 was an interesting year for us Porsche anoraks as the 72 911s are unique in carrying an oil filler flap in the rear wing. Legend has it that this feature was quickly discontinued when numerous less careful owners flung open the flap and sloshed petrol into the oil tank, quickly ending the life of the engine of their Porsche. Hence it disappeared on the 1973 models.

Sepia Brown is such a perfect colour for a car of this age, even more so when partnered with a tan interior. The colour is original to the car. It was delivered with standard seats, though is now fitted with D'Eser Recaro style sports seats. Either the originals, D'Esers or both are available with the car by negotiation.

The car was imported from the US in 2008 and has had 2 owners since, both classic Porsche enthusiasts. Thankfully, unlike many imports it has not been the subject of a questionable restoration. The paint is good, the panels gaps fine and the car appears free of any obvious (and certainly any significant) corrosion. It drives perfectly, starting, running and driving as well as any we have had and the strong torque of the 2.4 enables brisk progress without the need to rev it beyond 5000 all the time. It also stops ferociously well thanks to the recent fitment of brakes from a modern Porsche Boxster.

It comes with a good history file both from the US and UK and is an absolutely ideal entry level classic 911. It will also appeal to those who known the difference between a good car and a bad one and understand that it is often better to pay a little more and get something that is already right than it is to buy a 'bargain' and try to make it good.
