I dont get it, is this a 356 based special with a VW engine or a kit on a VW chassis?

Absolutely bloody love this '53. Bang on the money too. The build up thread is very revealing and honest, the fabrication excellent and the stance to die for! Not a Dove Blue fan but really works here...

I know it's far from a purist's ride, but, for what it is, I thought this was a good price ?! Like cubist said, build thread shows a lot of work, so no obvious hidden issues; but agree the write up re. it's vw-ness is a little confusing - oh well, good job we all like different ideas ( I don't think I will ever grow up and go off that so-cal look !)

it is what it is - no point trying to get your head around it if your world revolves around matching numbers and the correct number of loops per square cm of carpet.

I like it - but saying that it isnt how I would have it if it were mine, although my own car is unlikley to win a popularity contest amongst other owners either

if I had an early car missing lots of bits it would be built to essentially the same format, and I think it is a refreshing change to the usual race inspired outlaw theme.

I do have some first hand experience of the builders output as my friend owns the 47 beetle they built a couple of years ago - it is a great car, but the differences between what is acceptable in a build over there, and what our mot laws allow are vast.
The 356 may have more mot tolerant underpinnings, but it would be worth checking at the very least before opening the vault.
The exchange rate is good enough to make this a potential UK bound car- but I would need to get out there and drive the thing before buying.

Often ride height and looks are paramount, whilst ride quality and handling are grim as a result.
