There is a very strong argument that the 2.2 Es and Ss are amongst the most appealing classic 911s. Talk to anyone that has driven a lot of early cars and you'll often hear them come up as a favourite. The classic feel of the dog-leg 901 gearbox combined with the sure footed drive of the long-wheel-base floorpan and the distinctive wail and sweet delivery of the mechanical fuel injected motors make a very fine driving car indeed and one with a great deal of character. They're also engineered as well as any 911 ever was.
This thoroughly honest example looks perfect in Albert Blue.
It is a left hand drive, non-sunroof car, imported from the States in 1990 and thankfully, unlike many US cars, was not subject to a questionable 'restoration' beforehand, coming across largely original and unspoilt. Most of the hard to find bits are still in place and it has desirable black leather Recaro sports seats and a sports steering wheel with hockey puck horn push.
It was run until 2000 by Richie King and Julian Hunt of renowned specialists Karmann Konnection, at which point it passed to its most recent owner who has had it since. Remarkably it has been serviced by the same specialist, Autostrasse, since it came across.
It has recently been used as an only car and has therefore has always been very well looked after mechanically. The history file shows excellent, regular servicing and numerous replacement parts over the years. It drives very well indeed, feeling quick and sounding sweet, with a nice gearchange and very good brakes.
Regrettably 20 British winters have now taken their toll on the bodywork. Metalwork supremos Sportwagen attended to the front wings and sills in 2001/2 but it would now benefit from at least a new front panel, new B-posts and repairs to a rear wing and door. The carpets and headlining are also starting to show their age.
These items are not absolutely critical, the car has been, and could continue to be, used as it is, but it might make sense to attend to them now before they worsen.
It is our intention to begin these works when room in the coachworks opens up, probably in early June, but for someone not too fussy about cosmetics, or wanting to deal with this themselves, it is available to buy now. We are also happy to agree a price to include the bodywork renovation.
Please call to discuss.
