problem with backfire...

Post by Robster »

Hi all,

Got a problem with the car at thee moment. Car is running a bit rough, with popping through the exhaust on deceleration. Car is 914 running twin 40Idf Webers.

Fished the plugs out and cylinder 3 spark plug showed it was running lean on that cylinder. Whipped my carb balancer out, and it shows that the carb throat on cylinder 3 is flowing a lot less than the others which are balanced.

I've had the carb off and cleaned it - idle jet circuit and everything looks fine and is clear.

Question is what can it be..... an air leak ?

Any ideas welcome

Best regards

Sounds like an air leak, either on the inlet manifold, or possibly in the exhaust system somewhere
