356 T2 floor board question

I reckon Paul or Mike at PRS have seen enough of these boards and Hendrick has a very original "A" so he might help.

A nice guy "Etienne" in Holland is restoring very nicely a late "A" like mine. He noticed and a friend of his with another "A" also noticed when you look at the back of the wooden floor boards there are strips of what apears to be adhesive. I also have these strips.

He has asked the question what material went on to these strips? some on registry site say foam strips and I do seem to remember "yellow" foam but its so many years ago I think I may be mixing that up with something else.

Anybody know what went on these strips? Maybe used to stop the boards from rattling?

I thought that was a strip of the carpet from the car to provide sound proofing and stop any noises from the board on the floor????

Might be wrong I can not even remember where I got that from but it came out of the grey matter so must have been a possible option?

Jez, you are partly right (although I haven't been to look yet).
They put strips of felt rather than carpet on the boards to stop them rattling.

Thanks for the replies. On the registry site they are saying on the earllier T1 "A"'s the factory put felt strips as mentioned above, but on the later T2 it changed to foam strips.

Someone has now advised they have found remnants of yellow foam that is disintergrating as you touch it.

It will be interesting to see what you find on yours Hendrick if its not too much trouble. I have the adhesive but no evidence of foam now.

Have had a proper look today and it seems I'm getting confused between the A and PreA.
The boards on my A have the adhesive on the top edge, but also on the body as well. It looks like there are traces of sponge there, but it must have been pretty thin.
Maybe they glued they glued the floorboards in pace with this sponge or possibly they had a thin layer of sponge on the floorboard and another on the body.

Thanks for the reply Hendrick its much as I thought, they must have used foam or sponge type strips, and after no doubt 20 years it disappears into powder.
