993 RS - know any?

hello all,

a friend is looking at 993 turbos and i'm in the middle of convincing him that he should go for an RS instead - he likes to do the odd track day. perhaps i'm misleading him - i'd welcome your thoughts. also i know that the RS is a rare car, so any pointers towards available cars also appreciated. gt2 outside his price bracket.

What is his price bracket?

Very good 993 turbo circa 40k - very good 993RS circa 80k....quite a difference and even more if he wants a rhd 993RS (god knows why he would though?

useful, i has no idea what RSs go for - thanks.

he's looking in the region of 40-60k, so given that he's probably better sticking with the turbo

i'd like to educate him all the same and, well, his got cash so could be persuaded

Paul's (Ferryman) the man to ask on these (or Nick Moss of course), as both have been known to pilot them .....

60k won't get you a decent 993RS these days I'm afraid.

Would get you a very nice 964RS.

Or even a RHD 964RS touring (more road friendly without race seats etc) and I know where there is a nice one if interested.

It will get him a minter 993 turbo though. All I'd say is make sure he shops around and does his homework. There are lots of 60k cars that seem no better than the 40k cars imho other than are with hopeful dealers!!

As said, 60K won't get you into a half decent 993RS these days. I sold my LHD, high mileage and scruffy one 18 months ago for £55K, it's now probably worth more than £70K. RHDs are around £100K. £40K should find a nice Turbo. If he's after the raw feel then a 964RS touring would fit the bill, or he should consider a 996 GT3RS for around £55K. Now that is a fantastic car! The same money might buy a Mk1 997 GT3.

Prices for these have been holding pretty steady too so there's a chance of some free motoring which is never a bad thing

i should bloody hope so too with all the money i've spent on it ! by the way, i've had an original porsche exhaust fitted, that cargraphic one was just too bassy and didn't really suit the character of the car.

DDK are pretty good with all things Porsche, but I must admit the American's can out do us sometimes on the real detail

as an example, here is one of my genuinely favorite threads in search of a real anal detail

Nick Fulljames has a really nice 993 turbo that he has done a top-notch engine rebuild on. He is contemplating doing it as 2wd rather than 4. That might be an option.

PS I told him that he needs to make the rear wheels the driven wheels, but he seems set on front wheel drive
