912R to 911R inspired car

Right - at last I've sorted out the issue between new laptop and wireless router at home...basically involved buying a new router

Can now update DDKers as to how the project is trundling along!

To jog everyone's memory, the car was restored about 4/5(?) years ago by Miggs and presented as a 912 inspired by the 911R. According to the file, the car was the last RHD 912 made, as if the information is correct, was actually built originally in 1969 as a 911 and converted by Porsche in the factory to a '12. It was a special order by a German based Brit in the forces and was registered there originally and imported to the UK in 1973.

It was a matching numbers car until fairly recently when a previous owner sold the engine on. It was this which propted me to consider a 911 conversion.

Miggs' work was excellent and the car had no issues that were apparent (or in fact have become apparent) and really just needed a tidy and the work associated with a 911 conversion. Also the interior I felt wasn't doing the car justice so needed some work. So as a reminder, this is the car:

So, Mark at RS-911 and I agreed what was needed to be done and I went in search of an engine......having decided that a later lump would make it a bit lively....this is course meant that brakes and suspension would have to be upgraded......

Next step to strip out the interior, check for any hidden problems and prepare engine bay and under bonnet for new paint.....

So, nothing nasty emerged and interior tidy could start.....

So the plan for the interior was, new carpets, new headliner, new seats, replace dash.

Repainted floor pan and rear parcel shelf:

As work was ongoing, I procured a 3.2 engine (1989) and 915 box from Neil Bainbridge and imported a pair of PMO carbs myself on a trip to the US. Neil knew the car and checked the engine and box to make sure that it would be good to go when it got put into the car:

So now we can turn to the engine bay which needs to be stripped, engine mounts relocated, hole formed for the oil tank and lines and then finished

Stripped and ready for 912 mounts to be removed:

911 engine mounts were formed by welding in a section from a donor 911.

Okay so what's been going on at the front end.....as it was:

Pretty clean and tidy, just needed a sort out, also decided a front strut brace might be an idea....and to come shortly, Mark's world famous dog bowl treatment around the fuel filler to catch water.

Now, suspension and brakes......the plan to stip the suspension and repaint, new Bilstein shocks and C12 calipers. This work is ongoing....

In the meantime, the engine has been undergoing detailing and will be equipped with SSI heat exchangers and stainless steel muffler:

Further modifications for oil cooler and lines:

Reconditoned oil tank ready to be fitted;

So to bring things up to date....also decided to fit a 911R repro steering wheel, replace the dashboard with a good condition used unit and a 10K tacho.

The engine should have been fitted today.......

Watch this space as the project moves to its conclusion - and then the fun really begins

What tube size headers are you going to use on the 3.2?
I will be very interested to see how you get on with the PMO's. How big are they, 46's?
Who will set them up for you?
