No not the Prince song but just an observation. I've never seen so many RS/RSR/ST replicas for sale as there are at the moment.

Are we seeing the excess of peoples luxury 'toys' over the last few years suddenly no longer being affordable in the current climate?

Don't want to be a gloom monger but seems that way to me? Reminds me of the rush of 997/996TT/996 that came to the market Jan-May of this year.....

SOME WELL KNOWN CARS IN THE FIRST FEW PAGES ...................cud the prices be something to do with why they re hanging around so long ?

IMO not terribly realistic , though we all know what it costs to build these ....................................

Go further down and there are some real bargains there. Finally 3.3 Turbos are getting to be affordable. One day...

Have you noticed that 75% of them are concentrated around 3 or so dealers. Could be commission sales but several of them do look a bit similar like they were done by one conversion specialist/trader ...

Yours is nice and I know what you mean about where to position it, especially with so many on market.

My friend had a beautiful orange 3.6 rs rep, was on front cover of one of the 911 mags i believe....I won't tell you what he ended up getting for it

that would have been 'gone in 60 seconds' ( ddk member) ex car ? Imported from the states. Looked a very nice machine

Hi Jason ,I've been scratching my head to think of a worthwhile reply to your opening post....

You are right about the larger than normal supply of hotted up or replica or retro look 911s . I think Vic is right too about prices asked being optimistic and this being a sticking point so they are not shifting.

My feel for how far out the typical price point is - by 10 to 15k£

My rationale for what buyers of 'wannabees' want is either

A to create their own special 911 - however current economic climate not favourable to throwing money at non-essential indulgences

B to get a bargain that comes close in spec to their own wishlist (A) but at a significant saving on cost of A.....see my feel for this as above.

I tend to agree. Some people want the look and feel of the original, but dont have the money, but dont mind spending that bit extra.....

Just adding a bit more to the thread , I was getting tempted to buy into having a 'type A' earlier this year , and asked a couple of suppliers what it would cost to have a RS / ST type thingy done....the consensus was 60k£ and upwards depending on exact engine spec and use of pukka parts.

I then looked at what was out there already done and close to my spec ( type'B') ....found a couple of options but 40-60k £ mark.

I didn't go and haggle as would have had to shift expectation of seller down to 30-32k £ .....as well as prepare to sell off one of my existing brace.

Got to say its very addictive to read about what Jason and Helen do , ie collect desirable Porsches , and its still tempting to see what is out there on offer ... but financial prudence has kept me safe thru 2009 ( almost there!)

Mine is already filled but is having a ground up restoration....
