1973 2.4s Restoration

Hi All,

i was going to start a topic of the restoration of my 2.4s by Alan at Canford Classics but never really got round to it!! anyway i went down to see the car this weekend and it is finally starting to resemble a porsche again and i'm beginning to get excited about getting it back so i gathered together the photos that he has sent me over the last year of the restoration and popped them on flickr. i'm afraid they're not in any kind of order....

when i handed the car over, it was just about driveable but Peter Morgan had inspected it and felt that it needed a lot of money spent on it and very soon or there would be trouble. well, he was certainly right. once Alan had blasted the shell, he got me down to his workshop to see the results. it wasn't pretty.... in fact, he said it was one of the worst he'd ever seen!! Anyway, he has been working away on it for the last year and i am very happy, if rather poorer, with the results.

hope you enjoy all of the detail!! and i hope to add pictures of the car as it nears completion over the next month.

A big job, but it will all be worth it in the end!

Can't help thinking mine is similar under all the shine

Anyway that can be my Son's job when he inherits it!

yup your right, that was pretty horrible, made mine look almost presentable when I started

Having seen how bad this was before Barry got started really glad Jonathan mentioned him, he really does deserve all the credit!

Some of the former repairs /botches appear the most frightening............Barry s patience is just staggering ................will all be worth it as soon as u sit behind the wheel

How bad does a shell have to be before Mr Carter will be defeated?

Looks like a very good foundation has been created for waht I'm sure will end up a very nice car

This is very much a 'Canford Classics' restoration for Richard. and much credit must go to Alan for all of the behind-the-scenes work and organisation that goes into these projects before the more visible assembly work starts at Canford HQ.

Pleased to be involved in my own little way though, and I think it will will be a cracking car when finished (mind you, who can resist an early car in black

).

I know you are modest....but we know the amount of work you put in to crafting these repairs and appreciate it immensely....

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words. Again Barry has done a great job on the body work and the re-fit is going well. Should have the carpets and headliner finished today

As you can see in the pics Richards 2.4S required a great deal of body work but Barry is just about to undertake an even bigger body resto next!

(is that possible you ask?)

I don't think Barry needs a car to do a restoration, just give him a sheet of metal and some pliers and he's away, the jobs a good 'un

A few more pics to update the resto;
Parts refurb and refit:

Pedal cluster

Rebuilt handbrake- plated, powder coated and re-chromed

all other chrome parts have been re-done
