Does anyone else have a valve Motorola in their 356?

A question, has any else have a valve operated Motorola 811 radio fitted in their 356? I now the radio was in the car in 1960 but do not know if it was fitted in 1959 into my "A" by J.H.Bartlett Ltd of London the first recorded person in my buff log book or the factory. My car was first registered 20/5/59 ( it left Germany a short time before in March 59. (Battery guarantee card is marked 17-3-59 )

It would seem, its more than likely it was fitted in the UK possibly on arrival or within a short time afterwards. It certainly looks a perfect fit in the dash and the valve box looks very proffesionaly fitted.
World Radio Ltd of London was the company distributing Motorola in the late 50's. My radio "touch wood" still works well.

you need to PM Matt oakley I think his name is, he is always selling period radios, I am sure he would know!

I'm pretty sure my friends RHD '59 A has got the same Motorola with the amp under the LH toeboard and his still works fine too , and he has the same solution with his rubber mats , Bill.

Thanks for that info Bill, I had a pm from Rich Oakely who confirmed the Motorola was fitted in the UK on the cars arrival. The rubber mats I purchased "uncut" from "International Mercantile" in the States was one of my best buys. They really are nice and so heavy they never move. They are very thick and its not so easy to cut the slots for brake and clutch etc, but the price direct was much more realistic and worth the time doing that.

I do reckon though I chucked away original mats that looked just like those on page 33 of the 356A drivers manual. Page 27 though shows mats just like the new ones I have. I thought the old mats were produced by a company over here for RHD cars because the rubber molding had no flat areas around the mat and the rubber indents were very close together not like LHD mats. I only noticed the above photos last week I had looked everywhere before and never seen them!
