Hi folks

Post by 8URN »

Hope I'm ok to post this on the DDK forum - I'm the proud owner of a 1964 VW Karmann ghia UK spec RHD, and its been in my ownership for nearly five years now.

Anyhow, last year I decided I wanted to build an old skool type 1 1679cc motor with twin zenith carbs. and after seeing an advert for 2 356 porsche engines with spares I contacted the guy as I was interested in the carbs - to cut a long story short I struck a deal and got both engines!!!

One complete (Porsche 356 616/12 1600 super (1962 - 63) ...perfect period accessory for the ghia ) and one about 80% there + loads of spares - they came from a Nova kit car. the complete engine was totally rebuilt and has only done a few thousand miles before the chassis perished on the nova, only thing is its been sitting in a garage for 14 years.

My ghia....

...looks a bit rough but the owner had a thing for hammerite so probably helped protect the tinware. I've already stripped some bits ready for powder coating.

Lovely Ghia, welcome to the forum. I used to own a RHD UK 66 Ghia. Featured in Volksworld back in 94 and coincidently there's a page on it in this month's Volksworld looking back!

Lovely interior.

I sold my Ghia in 96 (together with my 56 Oval) to fund the purchase on my first early 911. It was bought by a guy near Southend and I saw it at a few VW events after that but then it just dissappeared!
