its a Wheel question

Hi all,

just been told the Fuch(ing) wheels on my 911s can't be referbished

so i am going to have to replace them. question is if i can't find any 15" x 5 and a half Fuchs then what are the alternatives??

no, apparently they have been referbished before and can't be done again.

can't for the life of me undersand how people manage to kerb wheels so badly.

Realise they are not stock but I love the look of these...want the red 16's for myself and then powdercoat them silver, but at the moment I can't justify it

Are all 4 riims so badly curbed that none of them can be refurbed?
5.5 x 15s are really hard to come by (not many made in the first place and loads have ended up on VWs

), so look for singles or pairs to make up a set. Failing that get a set of deep sixes fitted (most people will never know the difference anyway) and get the 5.5s refurbished and use for shows only

Hi Nick,

sent the wheels to wheel referbishers in Sevenoaks and they phoned to say that 4 out of the 5 wheels were no longer any good for referbishing.

I suppose if your not refurbing the originals, you can re-fit them & spend as long as it takes searching for some replacements ........... the thrill of the hunt

yes they are perfectly safe as they are. they are just not very pretty. and as i am having the car referbished at the moment. it would be nice to put some nice wheels on it.

If it helps, please send the wheels here and I will look into refurbing them for you. I have looked through pictures of the car before I sold it to you and do not remember them being badly curbed to the extent that they are no longer fit for purpose?

If you do need another set (but I would like to see these first) I have access to another full set of 15x 5.5s which have been anodised and detailed.

Hi Alan, my current wheels are very fit for purpose, infact they look great in all the photos. they just arn't concours, i am having some cosmetic work done on the car and so would like the wheels done too. so the whole car is spotless.. unfortunatly however they have been referbished before and therefore if they were done again they would be very thin.
i would however be very interested in buying the set of wheels off you.

this is the car. and if you look really really hard you can see there is small knicks all around the edges of the wheels

Looking at that pic, they should be able to just strip and polish them, a light turn to smooth the edge a bit, then reanodise. If the rim edges are not reallt badly damaged then I wouldn't machine them. On mine, we only machine maybe one wheel in 4, and even then I prefer to leave small marks in rather than take material off - you can't put it back.
