Coming over to the Dark side...
Just a quick intro and a question on tracing owners.

Had the car for about 10 months now and really love it. Its as above, LHD, ex Italian, originally brown interior now black with Recaros. Otherwise pretty standard.

It was brought to the UK by the MD of Pirelli UK in the early 90's (if I remember rightly). What I'd like to do is try to track down the original owner and his nephew (whom the Pirelli guy bought it from) and get some early history on the car. (As well as any subsequent owners out there?)

Any suggestions?

Welcome Timbob. You will find a lot of help on here.
I think I may know your car. Was it Sicilian rather than Italian?

Welcome - James (Hot66 on here) also has an ex-italian 2.4s, I think there was a thread on here once which gave some good info on tracking down Italian history - James is on his hols at the mo but I'm sure he'll chip in when he's back or just drop him a PM

See these threads, but I think the key piece of info was the Italian reg

Thanks thats great. I have a very cheesy picture of an Italian owner posing with the car that I'm sure has the numberplate details on it.

The reason I 'think' I know your car, is because my own is also Sicilian. I went through the same process to get the Sicilian and then Italian history.
You will need an Italian registration number as James says (it may have had more than one but any of them will do). Then you will need about 100 euros.

Some History

So I got the details of the Italian Early 911 forum from Mike (thanks Mike!).

They (Giuliano) were very helpful and I now have the full history of Italian owners (good news).

The bad (ish) news is that a is it is not the history that the car was sold as having. There were five owners in Italy (one for only one day) excluding the Italian chap who imported it, whereas it was "supposed" to have been one "Sicillian Count" (that should have set my BS detector beeping) who then gave it to his nephew. Looks like the "nephew" actually bought it in Sicily.

A bit disappointing but I did have my suspicions and it doesn't change the car which I still love. Don't know though whether I should be pee'd off with Autofarm (who sold the car with a "comprehensive history file") as if I could find this out surely they could have too. In their slight defence is an old letter from the guy who imported it (MD of Pirelli UK at the time) saying the guy he bought it from (the "nephew") was a good friend of his and had warranted the history.

I know its always caveat emptor but just goes to show that this holds even when dealing with "reputable" firms. (And especially in the motor business!)

Anyway - bottom line - it was worth doing as I now know for sure and the car is still great. I am going to try to get hold of some of the Sicillian geezers as well - just for interests sake!

great news on fnding the Italian history, even if it isn't as expected.

I'm still struggling to find my 'missing' Italian history for my car as I don't have any records of it's italian number plate :(

I think Mark Waring helped with its sale at one point in teh past but he has been less than helpful !

Tim

Great news. The boys on 911rip are very helpful.

If it of any interest to you myself and a couple of other cars with Sicilian connections are planning to go with our cars to next years Targa Florio event. Not only will it be a great drive/event we are hoping to meet up with some previous owners. We will be contacting our friends on 911rip nearer the time as it would be nice to meet some of them. If you want to consider going on the trip we will keep you up to speed with the details.

Mike

Mike - that will be October will it?

It sounds like a great trip. Are you going to drive all the way or do a bit of ferrying? I might be slightly squeamish about that much mileage but definitely keep me in the loop. It sounds interesting and some fantastic roads in Sicily by all accounts.
