Con Rod Bolts

Post by impmad2000 »

I think I bought the wrong con rod bolts!
The ones I've got are labeled as for a 2.2 '70 to '71.
They are the same diameter, but a little longer than my 2.4 bolts. I know they are stretch bolts, but they shouldn't longer pre-stretched, than the post stretched ones I took out !!
A quick check and Type911 show one type of bolt up to '84 where I know the bigger daimeter was used.
Pelican shows 4 types... confused !
I can see on the pelican site, I bought the most expensive ones (!!)
I think I'd rather have the correct ones.
Can someone more knowledgeable confirm my mistake.
I am a little dubious to to buy replacements when the vendor doesn't specify year differences when clearly there are !
Many Thanks

Hello, Tim.

There are four types I have see/used..maybe more!

The 2L rods up to 1969, the 2.2L rods up to 72, then 2.4 up to and including 3L..maybe 3.2 also but don't know..then the skinny 3.6 bolts..

The 2.2 bolts are indeed costly: I I have used slighlty mdified 928 bolts in thos rods..

But what you need is the later bolt..2.4 2.7 3.0..

I am afriad I don't have stock of them at present..

Kind regards
David

I don't know about the difference in length but I have always used ARP rod bolts together with new 928 12-point nuts (as recommended by Henry Schmidt at Supertec).

Tim

Do noy try and use the 2.2 bolts in a 2.4, they will foul the bottom pf the barrel and take lumps out of it! Use 2.4 - 3.0 10 mm bolts, the 3.2 uses a smaller diameter 9 mm bolt. I have some ARPs in stock if you want them at £160 a set
