Anyway, the car is fully detailed in this restoration thread:
http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... 37&start=0
Read it carefully: much of the information about the car is detailed there, as well as the story of what work has been done on the car.
To summarise: 1972 'E' orginally in Leaf Green (see this thread: http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... leaf+green ) and LHD. Was converted to RHD, probably in the early eighties.
930 Motorsport engine (Colin Belton) full rebuilt around 35K miles ago incuding following spec:
'S' Barrels and pistons.
Uprated oil pump with bypass mod.
Timeserts.
993 headstuds.
Mains and big ends.
Polished crank.
Balanced.
Chains.
Ramps.
etc, etc, etc
I have a rolling road report from before the car came off the road for 183BHP. It holds excellent oil pressure, and hot idle pressure is about .75-8 bar (give or take).
SSI's
Green Bilsteins all round (fitted with engine rebuild I think)
Steel braided hoses.
Front mounted oil cooler.
Uprated front and rear torsion bars.
Uprated front and rear anti-roll bars.
New BF Torino seats.
New Luke four point harnesses*.
All new flexible fuel hoses throughout.
MFI retained.
Set four genuine (6in) Fuchs, with a deep six rep. spare (unless a swapsy for a regular 6in crops up ).
Electric windows (slow but steady).
Electric sunroof: needs wiring in (my next job), but works fine with excellent aperture area.
Goodyear Eagle directionals all round: loads of tread and look to be 5-6 years old according to date markings, so probably fine for one more season age-wise?
380mm leather steering wheel, also 400mm original.
SC front calipers? (I was told).
* Prepared to fit a pair of new inertia seatbelts as well within the price.
Brakes: rock hard pedal, Porterfield pads (plenty of wear left).
Gearbox: weak synchro in first and third, but both can be driven round with care. On the other hand, the nicest shift on a 915 I've ever tried (and ever so easy to find the gears on this one: no miss-shifts). Gear oil was clean when checked.
Body: as detailed in the resto thread, the urgent structural work was completed last summer, with inner / outer sills, kidney bowl, wing closer plus inner wing repairs to the nearside and a N/S B-post. The car is now noticably stiffer than it was, and the shell feels very solid on the road. When jacking, and being placed on stands under the torsion bar covers, the doorgaps barely move, and the doors still shut nicely.
Very tidy gaps all round, and all opening panels close nicely.
The O/S appears to be generally very sound structurally, and the torsion bar area, seat pans, parcel shelf and screen ends are all very good (the engine bay insulation is removed at present, so a thorough inspection of the parcelshelf area is easy. I have a new insulation panel which will go with the car. There are two areas at the inside of the dash ends (under the cover, and out of sight, that could be done at some point, but the outer screen area at the ends seem to be remarkably good (a known failure point). The underside could do with a good cleaning off and a tidy up, as could the suspension, although it has all been waxed to keep the water at bay. There is a slight leak from the oil tank (self-preservation system ).
Some of the exterior panels will require work over the next few years, although I have rebuilt the N/S door (with new skin) and the N/S rear wing can be seen in bare metal in the resto thread.
I repainted the car in ICI Guards red last August (all but the roof), and it certainly gleams: something that was much commented upon at Volksworld.
Driving: from cold, the engine starts readily, however long it has been left. Sometimes there is an initial puff of whitish smoke, which quickly clears. The engine automatically comes off inrichment, and pulls very, very strongly, and is very keen to rev: when hot, it's perfectly happy pulling from 2000 revs to 7000. The gearbox has a light action, and with use of well-timed shifts and double-de-clutching, changes can be make smoothly and quietly. The ride is firm, as you'd expect: there is almost no body roll, and the car has a large kart feel to it. If I was keeping the car longer, I'd fit a set of Superpro bushes throughout, as there is the odd noise from the rear that I take to be a bush issue. Brakes are very strong indeed.
The current tyres are wearing evenly, which points to a well-aligned car, and the handling confirms that the curent set-up suits this 911 well.
Conclusion: This car is very much being sold with a view to requiring further work. However, it is a very handsome, usable and fast early car, with the benefit of being tax-exempt. I would suggest that someone could buy it and enjoy it as it is for a few years, and perhaps take a longer term view of returning it to Leaf Green when any panelwork is taken further.
As stated in the title, price is £15,750 as she stands. I'm pretty firm on that price, much less and it'll be silly to sell.
Forgot to say: MOT until late August, if it's deal-breaker I could put a new one on. TBH though, there was nothing from last year that should give concern this time around, it's also (free) taxed until the same time.
