Completely off-topic but WTB Revox A50 amplifier – FOUND IT!

Sorry about this, but I am trying to buy a Revox A50 amplifier to complete a Revox hi-fi system I acquired. I have the Revox A77 reel-to-reel tape deck, matching Revox A70 tuner and a Revox/Thorens/SME record deck – but no amplifier. The previous owner blew it up and threw it away! Can't find one anywhere (missed one on eBay last year). Could you keep eyes and ears open? Thanks everyone!

Blimey! Found one on eBay yesterday (in Germany!) and won the auction for about £50 less than the last one sold for. I am a happy man!

Hi Keith,

Another reel to reel man, the Revox is a lovely machine. I would'nt be without my reel to reel. It's a Sony TC 755 dual capstan 3 motor unit, bloody brilliant. If you need some 10 1/2" tapes or empty reels I have a 'few' spares.

Hi Steve – thanks for that! I also have an Akai 4000Dx which I bought a few years ago as it was the machine I always wanted as a kid. Trouble is, it only takes the 7-in reels.

I got the Revox in an interesting 'deal'. While looking round our local auction,I came across a pair of huge Wharfedale Airedale speakers – great big corner units from the '60s (yes, i did buy them...). I asked where they'd come from and was told from an old guy who also brought in a cabinet full of hi-fi equipment. OK, I asked, where is it. 'In the skip – it didn't pass the electrical inspection...'. To cut a long story short, I scored the Revox reel-to-reel, the A70 tuner and the Thorens/SME deck, plus ALL the original sales brochures and tech sheets, for free! It all works fine and was destined to go the landfill. Did I need a fifth record deck, or a second reel-to-reel, let alone the rest of the stuff?

Easy answer to that: of course I did!

And quite right too!! You can never have too much proper hi-fi gear. It breaks your heart to see some of the stuff at our local tip but because of new 'regulations' they won't let you take any stuff, not even for some cash. Well done for saving all that. I keep looking at the Garrard 401's on fleebay, I just know one day I'm going to hit that bid confirmed button........
