Hi Paul
We met briefly with Steve and Nick Moss at the Silverstone classic in the Bonhams tent.
I was rather tempted by that RHD rustheap 1965 911
my favourite colour combo, Slate grey and a red interior.Scary car though!

Welcome to DDK Marcus.
As for the northerners/Southeners debate: just bear in mind that the midlanders have the schwing-vote
Great that you bring your car back to light ivory: a very underrated colour...

As you know, in the olden days each nation had their colour to distinguish their cars:
Italy: Red,
France: Blue,
Belgium: yellow (incidentally the ferrari Giallo as Jaques Swaters' Garage Francorchamps in Brussels was the first importer outside of Italy of ferrari's and the belgian racing colour was kind of adopted by ferrari),
UK: British racing green and
Germany: white. (the silberpfeil mercs were originally white but were 2 kgs over the allowed weight limit. Therefore Racing manager Neubauer said: strip the buggers to bare alloy and get on with it. Hence the confusion)
Porsche still has a tradition to deliver their racing cars in white, albeit these days it is GP white.
That light ivory is a hothothot colour, imho.
All the best,
Bert

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I feel I am in friendly territory.
Bert, I think in this months Octane there is an interesting article about the paint stripping story on the racing mercs, appears it may be apocraphyl.
Went to See Steve H's (left4dead) new silver 2.4S yesterday, stunning.
Looking forward Nick to seeing the results of your hard work, good to see you last weekend.

NEUBAUER, Alfred; Speed was my life; edited and translated by Stewart Thomson and Charles Meisl with a forward by Stirling Moss; 1960 London: Barrie and Rockliff.
page 55: Describing the chapter "carracciola crashes" Neubauer noted down for may 1934, the International Race at the Nuerburgring circuit:
"Then on the very eve of the race I received a second shock. When our cars were weighed they were found to be too heavy. No more than one kilo over the prescribed 750, but that was enough. And even to reduce weight by one kilo seemed impossible, for there was nothing on the car that could be dispensed with. But a chance remark by von Brauchitsch gave me my inspiration. The whole night was spend removing the glossy white paint from the Silver Arrows. Next morning, they turned the scales at 750 kilos exactly.
And a few hours later von Brauchitsch clocked up the first victory for the new Mercedes racing-car. "
Can you tell I'm working from home today?
Now, to be fair the man Neubauer was larger than life in more than just the litteraly sense.

Reading his book, it is clear that he likes a good story. But the story is not of doubtful authority or authenticity....
All the best,
Bert
