Very nice Blaupunkt Frankfurt FM Radio for 356.

If any traders wish to advertise parts for sale they are most welcome. See announcement first!

Very nice Blaupunkt Frankfurt FM Radio for 356.

Post by Rich Oakley »

Always one or two genuine Porsche FM radios for sale here...
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZr.oakley

Also...

This one is in fully working condition (on 12v not tested on 6v). It's a valve driven beauty and was a genuine Porsche fitted factory extra in the late 50s and 1960s. It has the green dial lettering correct for a 356 and has a NOS 'thru-dash' 356 faceplate and new knobs. Price- £300.

Hi Richard, are you a radio trader: I only ask because out of your 70 odd posts so far, as far as I can see only a couple don't relate to something you're selling?

Hi Barry,

I apologise for shamelessly plugging my radios on a constant basis, but it is a private collection that I have amassed over a long period of time and I’m slowly passing them on to new owners. Is there somewhere else I should be posting or should I not post any further ads?

Rich.

Hi Rich, speaking personally, I'd suggest that most people that use this forum, and indeed other similar ones, would do so on a basis of 'give and take'.

Many users make a point of helping one another in terms of information, morale support and feedback without expecting anything in return. The use of the For Sale areas could be seen as a priviledge earned as a result of being active in the other areas of the forum. Then again, many newly registered users use the For Sale areas as their first posts, but this often then leads to them becoming forum regulars.

My own, very personal view (for what it's worth), is that use of the For Sale sections is very much there to be used by all. If however someone regularly used just this area, without the above input to the forum, this might be considered a bit one-sided.

If I was advertising in this way and was gaining financially almost in a business-like way, I would consider looking at the £££'s value of any sales, and think about offering a small token back to the forum in some way, just as 'traders' do in the two Trade, For Sale areas. That way I could still offer something that is very much of interest to forum members (and certainly look in lovely condition 8) ), without having any 'niggles' as to whether things might be a bit one sided. On the other hand, if I were to be a regular contributor to the forum, perhaps by offering radio technical advice, spares or general information (as do others when it comes to ignition systems, fuel injection, suspension etc etc), I could also 'rest easy'.

I definitely don't want to create the inpression that people should earn the right to post here, but also feel that (as in life), things should be seen to be reasonable and fair :) . You are, at the end of the day, advertising something that is of interest, and very relevent to what we are up to, so I personally wouldn't want you (or others) to feel that you couldn't use the service at all.

Like I say, all of the above is very much my own personal opinion, so I don't know how other users feel on this issue.

Richard

Do you have an in depth knowledge of these radios?

I have for a long time tried to find information relating to the serial numbers on the stickers of Blaupunkt and Becker radios. I know for instance that the first letter is a date code (model year) on some radios but I have never seen a definitive list explaining this. I know of various sites eg oldautoradio and I am sure this information is known by someone. It would be nice if this resource could be listed as a reference for everyone to check when they are investigating a possible purchase. I have not found such a list yet. Could you compile it and post on this forum?

In one way it is nice to get the heads up first on your expansive collection as you sell it but I also see Barry's point about using this medium as a selling point only. Interestingly I notice you usually post a link to your ebay auction but on this occasion it seems like a direct offer to DDK members? If someone is looking for a particular radio your posts certainly do save a lot of trawling through ebay (which is good) but it does seem as though a balance would be nice.

Could you share some of the knowledge you have gained by collecting so many radios?

With all your photos and serial numbers you could compile a very useful resource it seems to me.

Just a personal view.

Mike

Mike/Barry.

I think you are both right- I should have more input into the forum. I've thought about posting in the Technical section before, but there's rarely ever any mention of Porsche radios on the forums (and I don't want to bore people to death!). I haven't owned a classic Porsche for some time (although I own eight vintage VWs).

I will make a start by providing an overview on the history of Blaupunkt's association with Porsche in the chat area. I will also post a guide to identifying the date and model of the radio in the Tech area.

Rich

There has never been a radio technical input because I suspect we have never had someone with an in depth knowledge willing to post. I for one will not find it boring. We have experts on here on just about everything and I am glad you are willing to share what you know about radios.

I look forward to reading your posts!

I did say rarely.

I have not personally tried to connect one of these earlier units up to an external device such as an MP3. Did you manage to find a suitable solution? If not, I will do some digging.

That's fantastic, judging by the 'reception' you've got there (see what I did there, thank you, I'm here all week :drunken: ), you've created a great thread.

Best wishes, and best of luick with the sale of your collection,

Barry
